Count down to BC

I have a bit of an off topic question. There was a horse named Riker racing. I believe he was in the race that Nyquist won.

the horse I ride, Dispatcher, has a full brother named Riker, born in 1995. This Riker was still racing at age 12.

have the rules changed about duplicate names? Or has it been plenty of time to use the 1995 Riker’s name again?

Just curious…

I believe the rule on names that have not been “retired” is that the previous horse must have been finished racing for at 6 years. Riker 1995 last raced in 2007, and the Riker in the BC Juvenile was foaled in 2013.

Correct me if I’m wrong, experts

(and incidentally, Dispatcher has been used before as well! There was a 1983 horse, and your 1997 boy apparently last raced in 2001. There is also now a 2006 horse, who I assume was registered in '07 if I was right on that rule)

thanks for the info. My sweet Dispatcher was not much of a race horse, but he’s turned into a lovely riding horse!

After a bit of a lackluster 2016 campaign, Untapable has been retired.

When she was on her game, she was a great filly. Hoping she can pass on some of her ability to her offspring. Will be interesting to see who her dance partner is next year.

Was happy to see that when she wasn’t racing up to her previous ability the connections chose to retire her rather than continuing on this year.
