OMG it’s on Halloween! My husband and I love to take little trips to do fun things, ie Saratoga for the Travers and Zac Brown. We are going to the BC next year at Del Mar. Had I realized the BC was on Halloween earlier this year, maybe we would have planned something fun and silly…
Flash44: This maybe your chance to dress up as a “spooky” horse at Keeneland. Short beautiful drive from PA too.
I keep seriously thinking about going…I have a friend who lives in Lexington I could probably stay with. But, the lack of direct flights is problematic, makes for much longer travel days. And I’d have to buy tickets on the secondary market…and as soon as I’d book my tickets Pharoah would be retired. I’d really like to see him, Rachel’s Valentina, and Beholder. But you never know who is actually going to be there.
I think my last Breeders Cup was 2005? Back when it was still one day, nefore they added all the second tier races.

Try flying to Cincinnatti - it’s only about an hour drive from Lex. That’s what we are doing for BC this year, and what I have also done it several times in the past when traveling to Lex.
More and more I’m liking the distaff side of the card. Some very lovely fillies in the 2 year old class as well as 3 years old and up.
Looking forward to seeing which race Beholder runs in.
Hope AP is back on his game.
The husband and I are going. We are only about a 3 hr drive and were planning to drive home Friday night. But now we are thinking about making a long weekend of it and stay in Cincinnati. Would that be pointless? We don’t mind the drive, I mean we were going to stay at home originally… I know enough folks in Lexington that we could crash somewhere worst case scenario, but no way do I want to deal with a hotel in the immediate area! Gas is cheap right now, a lot cheaper than a hotel will be.
Here is a fun story written by a friend of mine about BC, the impact on Lex, and some of the events scheduled around the festival:
Enjoy!
Thought I would resurrect this thread
Beholder looks like she’s in for the Classic.
American Pharoah I don’t think has officially declared.
Just read that the current European darling Golden Horn may ship over the pond for the Classic.
Looks like some good racing. Also think the distaff juvenile will be a good race.
Worried a bit about the rough weekend Keeneland had with breakdowns
I have to go to a wedding on BC day… A semi-formal wedding… :dead:
Will be recording to watch later.
If Golden Horn comes to the BC, would he run in the dirt classic against American Pharoah or the turf classic? If he did run against AP, that would decide the best 3yo in the world definitively. He won the Epsom Derby and the Arc.
We are doing the BC 2017 at Del Mar…we do a trip every year for our anniversary. Wish we could do Keeneland this year, but didn’t start planning until too late.
I assumed, but looks like maybe incorrectly, that Golden Horn would race on dirt but looks like he’d be targeted toward the Classic Turf (which would make more sense )
At this point I like TONALIST. Don’t think HONOR CODE is ready. I certainly love BEHOLDER but just can’t bet a filly in a big race. Not to say B can’t win. She can.

That article on Beholder says she was the first horse to win two different Breeder’s Cup races… but didn’t Zenyatta do that, winning the Distaff and the Classic?
Shaping up to be a great BC! The Classic, particularly. I’d like to see AP win, just because he’s the TC winner. But shoot, I would be happy as a horse with a puddle of mud to play in if Beholder or Honor Code won as well They’ve run some beautiful races this year; AP is going to have to work HARD. I would also really like Keen Ice and Frosted to be up there somewhere…I don’t expect them to win but I like them both and would love to see them place well.
rascalpony: I agree with you. JMO that there are some interesting fields throughout to watch.
I really don’t think it will effect his eventual stud fee but if AP runs poorly it will leave a poor impression on his legacy as a TC champion. It’s been a long year for all the classic field.
One thing for sure, AP is driving heavy ticket sales.

Agree completely. I’m also pretty excited for the Turf and the Distaff in particular, and also the Dirt Mile. I can’t even decide on a favorite for most of them
I know, I hope AP runs well just to cement his legacy. It would be sad to watch him run poorly after winning the TC. It certainly has been a long season for everyone. One thing AP does have though (along with just about everyone in this field) is some serious guts. Hopefully, even if he doesn’t win (and I wouldn’t be mad at him with Beholder and HC in the field) he runs really well. But sentimentally, I’d like to see him win. Gotta love Beholder and HC though - watching their wins this summer has been fantastic.
I am wondering if Honor Code will be ready though - he looked a little tired in his last race, though the pace wasn’t great for him either, really.
I wouldn’t discount either Keen Ice or Frosted in the Classic (although I’d give the edge to Keen Ice) to give AP and Beholder some competition.
Also looking forward to the Juvenile Distaff as well. Some nice fillies this year.
I got my tickets yesterday. To say I’m excited is an understatement.
