Sounds like he’s had quite the run of bad luck after the 2019 Derby.
Have to wonder if they’ll try to stand him at stud (hopefully not) or place him somewhere.
Yes, not a surprise.
He’s a homebred isn’t he? It will be interesting to see what they do.

Lots of nonreleased info in there. Still, I don’t blame the owners for not being transparent last year. The racing crazies would have been piling on calling it a lie immediately and that they were just chicken to race. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if some still call it that.
I’m glad that CH has apparently beaten laminitis. Hope he has a long, comfortable life in retirement. I agree, with the leg problems before the laminitis, not a great stud candidate. I remember seeing him in Hot Springs last year in the paddock. He struck me then as not physically grown into himself, promising but not quite put together yet.
Interesting info about their fight against laminitis and Country House

I may not have liked the 2019 Derby or the fact that he was promoted to 1st… but he ran a great race. Unfortunate they couldn’t keep him sound.
I hope that they find him a 2nd career with a good rider. We need more of that.
Very reminiscent of the chain of events leading to Sunday Silence’s death.
That is rather unlikely considering his condition.
I guess that depends on how severe his laminitis was. May not have held up to racing but could do something like dressage or the like. Or donate him to Old Friends. I like Country House, I think he is a beautiful individual and he ran a helluva KY Derby. but the industry doesn’t need another mediocre, lackluster stallion who will end up in some foreign country. BUt alas, he could surprise us…the beauty of genetics. But I am leaning towards the idea that most people wouldn’t send their good mares to him.
The condition that led to the laminitis and the surgery, not just the laminitis makes it very unlikely that he will be ridable, let alone sound enough for dressage. I think they’ll be happy just to keep him alive.
