Here’s Cozmic One with Isabela de Sousa: http://www.chronofhorse.com/article/i-cant-wait-to-see-where-cozmic-ones-second-career-takes-him
Looks like he’s doing great. It will be very interesting to see how he does. From the videos on her FB page it looks like he has a really nice walk.
I can’t wait to see how he progresses and muscles out as a sporthorse. He definitely seems a lot more chill now that he’s lost the man-berries and left the track environment.
I’m happy to see her blogging about her experience and hope they do well.
What a gorgeous coat that boy has! HANDSOME
His young lady sounds like a sweetheart. Looking at her great jumping form I smiled when I read “I was so lucky to win all three”. No, you put in the work and you have talent.
I’m hoping they have a wonderful time together and that they both learn lots. Good luck Isabella!
He looks like an awfully nice horse- beautifully made and athletic- even if you didn’t know he was royalty!
I hope to see great things come from his second career. Great as in- happy horse- with a job- out having a great time!
Well, maybe all of those little old ladies on the Zenyatta site who were saying that Coz should be out there jumping or eventing–or dressaging–were right in the long run. Kudos to the Mosses and the de Sousas for making this happen.
I also saw that Coz is joint owned by the two parties. Does that mean that he will be SOLD after the makeover? Or will some other sort of deal be made? Looking forward to seeing what happens during his journey to the makeover and afterwards.
Partnership on a young, unproven horse doesn’t usually mean anything is etched in stone other then somebody in the partnership needs a partner and somebody else wants to retain some control. Nice to see the track owners here doing the ethical thing. But it is a business and the idea is creating marketable horses able to command competitive prices after transitioning them to second careers.
At the moment, it’s vary hard to sell an OTTB or even unraced Green TB into a WB saturated market at a price point justifying taking on the costs of the makeover. The cliche is if you don’t have much money, you can always go for an OTTB. That needs to change.
Did not realize that Isabela is only 16! I absolutely love how humbly and optimistic she writes. What a lovely, mature, young lady.
Kudos to the Moss’s for keeping part ownership of their horse! I’m SURE as to not let it get into the wrong hands down the road! They are CLASSY AND GREAT HORSE FOLKS!!!
I always thought Zenyatta looked like she would make a really cool dressage horse. It will be interesting to see what Cosmic One ends up looking like under saddle. At least Ziconic seems to be doing a bit better at the races, though not much. Beginning to look like Zenyatta may be a dud as a broodmare.
Zenyatta is not a dud as a broodmare. All depends on what she’s mated to. Breeding The top to the top does not always equate to greatness; history has proven that. But the mosses are not about to send a mare like Zenyatta to a stallion like Bird Song who stands for 5k, although it’d be an interesting choice.
Bernardini is very hit or miss with his offspring, although he makes a great sporthorse sire!
Ziconic being by Tapit; not all Tapit’s are great and a lot of them can be difficult. Ziconix has earned 70,000 in his short jaunts on the track so that’s not half bad. And out of Zenyatta’s three foals, only 2 have raced.
Still lots in her future
It’s hard to see how anyone could argue that Zenyatta is a successful broodmare. So far in six years at stud her produce record consists of:
2 horses that have 17 starts between them, 0 wins
A filly who died
2 open years
1 yearling filly
If she were any other mare. it’s unlikely her owners would still be breeding her.
I recall reading that the first War Front was considered a very nice-looking filly as she grew. So, I have often wondered if she might have been successful on the track. We will never know. Rest well, Z Princess.
The death of Zenyatta’s War Front filly is not fault of her own. Its not like the filly died of unexpected poor health. She died from a paddock accident. So she only has 2 offspring to race, from my original post. Lets wait and see what her yearling filly does, who I think might be the best mating on Zenyatta (Medaglia D’oro). Is she bred back for this year, I am assuming they are going to breed her to foal in 2019; will be interesting to see what they choose.
The fun thing about breeding is that it is a total crapshoot. Bernardini was a gamble as was Tapit. Both very successful sires on a very successful mare. But both stallions have produced more duds than they have successes. It’s completely unfair to blame her two racing offspring on Zenyatta herself; but fail to place no blame on the stallions for not living up to the expectations.
I would love to see her offspring run on turf even though Zenyatta’s primary wins came on dirt. She’s by Irish stallion Street Cry. Street Cry was a champion turf sire.
Lets all dream and send her to Flintshire at Hill N Dale. That would be an interesting cross!

Coolmore keeps trying with Rags To Riches…seven offspring of racing age. Two never got to the races (I am not including her 2yo filly by Australia), one made a lone losing start, one broke his maiden only, and another never did break his maiden. She does have one Gr. 1 winner…in Serbia.
They’ve got her in foal to Tapit for this year.
Also the War Front colt that died a few days after birth. Due to meconium contamination in placental fluids, causing aspiration pneumonia.
Has anybody been following his progress on the deSousa site? He looks to be progressing really well and he should (with his royal parentage) be a wonderful ambassador for the OTTBs. He did some demos at the Land Rover 3-day this weekend and it looks like he went well there, albeit greenly. Wonder if Sherrif or either of the Mosses were there to see him.
I watched one of the RRP demos down at Land Rover last weekend and Coz did great! It was pretty windy with banners/tents/flags all flapping quite a bit but he was really chill about everything. Isabela took him over a few small jumps and while he’s obviously green he looked very willing and obedient. Definitely excited to see where he goes in the future!
Anyone watching the RRP and have any updates?
