Craigslist free CCI* horse?

Craigslist Los Angeles has a posting for a free 15 year old Oldenburg in the Chatsworth area. 17.2 h grey, jumper experience in Germany, schooled Advanced, competed CCI*, “competed Rolex 2011.” Ad says the owner is moving to the UK, tickets are purchased to go on 2/15/15…and they horse is a giveaway.
There has to be a better way to find this horse a new home…and the ad says “no meat guys.” Ouch.

Scammer?

[I][B]FIRST LET ME SAY THIS IS NOT A SCAM.
THIS HORSE IS OUR BABY BUT WE HAVE DECIDED TO MOVE TO UK AND HAVE TICKETS PURCHASED FOR FEB 15TH.

HE IS A 17.2 H FLEA BITTEN GRAY GELDING, PERFECT MANNERS AND HAS A GREAT PERSONALITY. HE HAS COMPETED SUCCESSFULLY THROUGH CCI* LEVEL, SCHOOLED ADVANCED LEVEL EVENTING. COMPETING IN KENTUCKY ROLEX 2011.
DUE TO A INJURY HE IS BEST SUITED FOR FLAT ALTHOUGH JUMPING IS HIS PASSION. he ALSO COMPETED IN GERMANY PROFESSIONALLY ON SHOWJUMPING CIRCUIT .

HE IS REGISTERED AND HIS DAD IS # 1 STALLION OLDENBURG “Ideal”. HE HAS BEEN VALUED AT 35K… WOULD MAKE A PERFECT LEVEL 3 OR 4 DRESSAGE SCHOOLMASTER . this boy knows it all…

HE IS CURRENTLY SLIGHTLY LAME ON FROM RIGHT DUE TO CAST IN HIS STALL. WE HAVE HAD VET OUT AND HAVE ALL CLEAN XRAYS, NO NAVICULAR AND VET SAID SHOULD HEAL IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. XRAYS AND VET REPORT AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.

UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO SELL HIM AND WAIT HENCE THE FREE HORSE. WE MUST BE GUARANTEED A LOVING HOME FOR THIS SUPER TALENTED BOY THAT HAS DONE IT ALL. CURRENTLY RIDDEN BY A 12 YR OLD ADVANCED RIDER . THE IDEAL SITUATION WOULD BE TO HAVE A TURNOUT/PASTURE FOR HIM TO REST FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS AND THEN BRING HIM BACK. WE HAVE MANY VIDEOS OF THIS BOY IN ACTION HIS GAIT IS AMAZING AND WILL COME BACK SOUND AGAIN SOON. No bite, no kick, no vices.

please respond to add via email preferably and a little about the living conditions and plans for this big boy. NO MEAT GUYS, WILL BE CHECKING REFERENCES AS WE LOVE THIS BOY VERY MUCH AND WANT THE BEST HOME FOR HIM. CURRENT ON SHOTS, WORMING, NEW SHOES,

Eh - yeah they said no meat guys, but they also said that they care about this horse, and will be checking references etc.

Doesn’t seem that bad to me. People’s lives change - I wouldn’t hold up moving over seas for a horse necessarily.

And while he does have a lot of experience, 15 year old, UNSOUND horses don’t exactly go for a ton of $$. Sounds to me like the owners are trying to find a good situation for him.

If the highest level he competed is CCI* then what the hell was he doing at Rolex in 2011, lol!!

If that horse is 17.2h I’ll eat my shirt.

Hope he finds a soft landing.

He looks like he’s 17 or more hands. And a son of Ideal, who was by Inschallah. But Ideal was at stud in the PNW, wasn’t he? So sad to put a big lame horse on craigslist for free. Hopefully someone will take him and try to get him sound again, if the owner is telling the truth about his injury. Otherwise, the best thing would be to put him down. A 15 yr old unsound gelding is not going to get a good home with anyone. Sad case.

Well, he is every bit an Ideal baby. I’ve never known a stallion to stamp his get the way that guy does. He looks just like his daddy and just like every one of the Ideal babies I’ve ever seen.

Hope he finds a soft landing. As dumb as it sounds, if he were on this coast, I’d almost consider him since I have a soft spot for Ideal babies. I’ve got a pasture he could hang out in and good vets to diagnose and treat him.

PS- maybe not Rolex, but I do wonder if he did YRs. He’s definitely jumping around the one star course at Kentucky, and appears to be part of a team.

 bummer. But sounds like it could be a great deal for someone that has the knowledge, $$, and time to try and get him sound again. I’m really surprised that with the level of competition this horse has achieved that they don’t have any connections to home him with out the CL advertising.

It sounds like he was cast in a stall but they have all his vet records. He’d be an amazing schoolmaster on the flat. I don’t see any reason to just put him down without making an effort at finding him a home.

I may have missed it, but do they ever give his name, to look up USEA records?

He looks like a big, sweet boy.

I think this is him:

Sorry: MILE HIGH (4599023)

For some reason I always find it strange to see “new shoes” or “just shod” in an ad, especially in this case. If you really want to find him a great home, I don’t think it is going to be with someone who has to worry about the price of shoes.

It looks like you are correct…

Looks like what they meant by saying Rolex KY in 2011 they were referring to competing at Young Riders in 2011

If I had the money for shipping right now I would take him on

CoutureTB, we warmbloods are in for $100 to help with shipping if you’ll take him. (trying to help one of our relatives here.)
