Creep feeder for cats?

Anyone have success with this? Plans or links?

Miss Kitty is on a strict, prescription wet food only diet. She’s also on twice a day insulin, and we now need to restrict her feedings to injection times only to stop blood sugar spikes. She used to get a third feeding midday. Miss Kitty is fine with this.

Disco Fuzzy is NOT. She’d honestly rather have kibble out all the time, and taking out her midday meal is resulting in an intolerable fuss. Locking her in a room isn’t ideal. She has no health issues, but certainly isn’t overweight.

I’d love to be able to put out free feed kibble for Disco somewhere, but Miss Kitty absolutely can’t have any. Even the prescription kind. Miss Kitty doesn’t jump super well anymore, but I suspect she’d chance it for kibble…so just high up isn’t enough. Disco is smaller than Miss Kitty, but not by a large margin.

Something like this? or this? Ohh - on sale!

Collar tag opens bowl for only the wearer of the tag.

Have you used it? If it works I’d try it…

No, sorry. Just the power of Google.

The other thing to do would be to have an interior door set with one of the electronic cat flaps. But that would mean permanently modifying the door.

Get a big Rubbermaid or Sterilite tote. Cut a hole in the side that the smaller, free fed cat can get through but the diabetic cat can’t. Put the kibble in the box.

The microchip bowl has promise, especially if I put it on a ledge only big enough for one cat. We are going to test Disco tonight to see if she’ll keep a collar on.

We tried cat flaps for a different reason a few years ago and couldn’t convince either cat to go through…

I have a friend who has a microchip bowl for their cats, and it does work well. I think it’s the SureFeed one, though.

Please, if you try a collar, make sure there isn’t anything anywhere in the house that could possibly get caught under the collar and snare the kitty. Even a cat-safe breakaway collar could get hooked up on a corner of a piece of furniture, and, in separating for the cat, could pull the piece of furniture over.
