Can anyone remember the name of the cremello Welsh stallion (I think in Florida) that carries the silver dapple gene?
He might be a Rosmel prefixed pony, but I’m totally drawing a blank on the name.
I have a client with a Mardi daughter that might be interested in breeding her to him and I’d like to pass on his info.

That is the only Cremello with the Rosmel prefix that comes to my mind.

If your client is looking for a Cremello stallion, there is a very nice imported welsh section B here in Ontario.
I have no idea if he carries the Silver Dapple or if that is a must for your client.

I have a beautiful colt out of my TB mare by Mint. Just love him. Not sure how tall he will be out of a 16h mare. I’m hoping max. large pony but since he’s not for re-sale just something shorter than 16h is the goal.
We have a silver buckskin pony mare by Mint. She is the sweetest, easiest pony I have ever had to work with. At 3 my daughter pulled her out of the field and in 3 weeks she was at a horse show. The following weekend she went to another show and was champion in her two divisions. We lover her. Here are a few pics of her from when we started her under saddle. All with about 2 months of saddle time. Not many 3 year old ponies can you ride and jump bridle-less ;)I would have another in a heart beat!!

Mint is the ONLY double dilute Sec A Welsh that also has the silver dapple gene in the WORLD. If you ever find another, let me know because Mints daughters would LOVE to meet him! He also produces foals that are very trainable and lovely movers!

I think that website is out of date. I believe they sold him last year but I don’t recall to who.

The only thing with him…if a Mare Owner is breeding specifically to produce a dilute foal, he is also heterozygous grey. He is throwing grey foals out of solid colored mares…so he carries the grey gene…which makes sense as both his sire and dam are also grey. Unfortunately, it is quite common for the grey gene to “hide under” a double dilute coat. So, for those mare owners dreaming of a palomino foal, buckskin foal, etc., there would be a 50% chance of the foal turning grey. Personally, I think the grey Welsh Pony foals are pretty darn cute and everyone seems to want one on the hunter circuit! ;):yes:
I’m confused, wouldn’t Tarantara have to be grey himself to produce grey from solid mares? He looks cremello in the photos, although I am not sure what a greying out cremello would look like.

I thought I would update this thread as well with new pictures Kahlooa N Kreme by Mint.
We adore her and would happily suggest him to mare owners who whant talent, looks and disposition in the resulting foal. Oh yeah and the added bonus of fun color possibilities
As I mentioned above, horses that are double dilute (cremello, perlino and smoky cream) AND are also grey…the grey often hides under the double dilute coat. Any other color, you can easily see the grey and the grey takes over, but because the double dilutes are already a light color, it tends to make the grey almost impossible to see. So yes, his base coat is cremello and he is also grey…which is how he is producing grey foals out of solid colored mares (bay, black and chestnut).
I’ve even seen older double dilutes with the grey gene and they still just look double dilute and there is no evidence of grey…until you start producing foals.
It would be easier to know a Perlino or Smoky Cream had grayed, than a Cremello, but it can still be hard to tell with any of them, as Daventry said. It helps to see the horse as a youngster to see that they are even more “white” now than then.
But when you start with a pale pale coat, even very close to white in the case of many cremellos, well, there’s just not much more room to go with the “whiting” process
