Crestfallen horse (are there any fixes?)

I have a fjord with a slightly broken crest, has been that way his entire life. Since he’s a fjord, the roached mane flops a bit to the side when he’s at rest. He’s never been overweight, though I’ve read this can happen in horses that are gelded late, which is the case with him. Just curious if anyone has ever figured out a fix for this. He has regular chiro, vet, etc.

I think the broken crest is a form of injury to the nuchal ligament, and is permanent… sorry…

my 2 donkeys got too much fat in their necks. This has caused a permanent bend in the ligament, but, it hasnt broken over yet. Although, I caught it early and took some nutritional action that stopped it from getting worse anyway.

This is just my personal experience though. Maybe someone with a difference experience knows of something that can be done.

One of my donkeys also had a broken crest. Most people with experience have said there is no reversing it. Even as he has lost weight, it has persisted. Although some without experience swear the trendy supplement du jour will fix it.

The common wisdom I’ve always been told is that it won’t heal. That said, I can’t imagine there isn’t a cosmetic procedure that could be done if it’s important enough to you.
