Cricket bit - Where to buy???

I borrowed a snaffle “cricket bit” which was great, but I cannot find the bit anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions?

The only “cricket bits” I can find are curb bits with the “cricket” little roller in the port.

The bit I borrowed was an egg-butt snaffle with the cricket roller in the center joint.

Any advice is welcome.

You mean like this?

Or any of these?

The bit I’m looking for looks very much like the two above, but the little copper roller has raised ridges…

As the horse with a busy mouth slides the tongue back and forth, the bit makes a “crrrrrrik, crrrrrrik, crrrrrrik, crrrrrrik” sound. After a while, it seems the horse gets bored and stops with the tongue.

Thanks for all the suggestions…but the ones above are what I’ve found. The trainer that showed it to me is a western/polo guy, so I was thinking maybe someone might be familiar with that configuration.

This company www.quickbits.net can make the ‘cricket’ bit.

Look at the first bit on the page in the link. Is it that mouth on eggbut rings?

I think the bit you have was a special order.

Try searching oval mouth bits. Some of them have crickets I think.

Have to say I have not ever seen a bit with a roller stop the busy mouth horse playing with it! Be warned the cricket noise can drive you crazy over time. And if horse is playing with the roller, he likely is not paying attention to you and his cues while riding. Have seen that too.

I think Pat Puckett really likes these bits. A few of the people that have been to his clinics buy them from him. I know I have heard that distinct cricket noise.

If you can’t get it directly from him he can probably direct you to where to get it.

It looks like a loose ring is available on his website under store for $150

That snaffle is an Interesting looking bit. does anyone know how it moves - ie, do the sides swivel like a Myler? How much does it “collapse” with rein pressure?

I have one. None of my horses have ever played with it within my hearing, though. IIRC, I bought it from Myler.

I really like double jointed snaffles. Very good for horses with a low palete.

I knew the all-knowing COTH would help…this is the bit.

What I have found was that the horse plays with the roller, but then eventually quits as it relaxes and settles into work.

I’m breaking a baby who is holding some tension. I found it helpful for me to hear the cricket while I observe the horse (long-lines or double lunging) or when I ride…to get some audio confirmation that the relaxation I’m seeing/feeling in the body is permeating to the TMJ and tongue.
