Critique/ PPE recommendations

So my long and soft pasterned guy went back to New Vocations yesterday, and I am moving forwards with this guy - I appreciated all the wisdom in my last post about Theo, so quick response requested as PPE is coming up in about 4 hours LOL.

I am comfortable with his sdft, he’s had 3 sets of comprehensive checks on it’s healing, and all show consistent improvement and doing well with his rehab rides. In addition to the normal PPE protocol (flexions, movement, heat or swellings, etc.) I told vet if we get past that I want rads front and side of all four feet to assess hoof structure as well as a good look at his teeth and neck as he seems stiff and protective of his mouth especially stepping into the trot. Most likely that is just OTTB tension - he wore a lot of head gear when he raced - but want to make sure nothing glaring is happening there.

I like he can take a joke from his rider, and is a sweepy mover… I see a bit of toe drag under saddle but not much of it on his in hand on hard ground trot video.

He will be for trails, intro dressage for me and maybe low hunters.

What say you?

Handsome horse.
The only thing that pops out at me about him is the dishing on the left front. Looks to be part of a high-low situation.

Could be of no concern, but:

Thank you - this is exactly why I posted - different sets of eyes seeing things to ask about… I’m putting that on my list for the vet. I’m several states away so want to have as much info as I can before he makes a trip back to me.

He’s really cute! I recently had a PPE in Lexington, and the vet offered a package for a full set of X-rays that was a lot more affordable than a la carte, so that might be a nice option as a baseline and so you know how to maintain him.

Good to know - I’ll ask about that when I talk to her during the PPE if we get to the xrays.

The vet told me it would cost about the same as imaging the hock and stifle, which was what I originally asked for. That’s why I suggested asking if they have any packages.

After several bad results with horses who have become totally, unrideably lame, I will now always have rads of the hocks — especially if he is moving shorter on one leg.

Then I would leave it up to the vet if he recommended rads of the stifles. Too many people think that the front end is the prevalent area for lameness. But my last 3 horses have all had issues behind.

Did you mention a basic cervical /neurological test? Easy to do and it might point towards a future big issue.

Remember, the cheapest part of owning a horse is the purchase price. Of the 5 horses in my fields[quote=“Kenny80908, post:1, topic:773488, full:true”]

now, only 2 would pass a PPE and they are the oldest two.

DAMN. Strange things have shown up in my post and I seem unable to remove them. Please rearrange letters/words/paragraphs into an intelligible format.

Why does this happen? And, is there a way to redo issues once you have pressed “reply”?
