Critique this OTTB

Hello all,

I am considering buying this mare. I have been leasing her for almost 6 months. She is a 5yo OTTB. I ADORE her. Thoughts on her build to hold up to low level work? I am concerned about her roached back and I am worried her pasterns are too upright. I have had no soundness problems with her as of yet. I am well aware she needs to gain weight. First two pictures are sales pics (about 1.5 years old). Last pic is recent. Plans are to own from 1-2 years and resell (not looking for a profit).

Any reason you lopped her neck and head off in all the pictures? Or is that just so its difficult for maybe her owner to identify her here in a thread on CoTH? Which is fine and understandable - I was just curious.

Baby pictures are great to have - but to “critique her conformation”, you really need current pics of the whole horse, standing square - left side, right side, rear and front. Bonus points for w/t/c video footage - on lunge or under saddle.

She needs more than just weight. Her topline, and hip seem under-muscled to me. Has she been out to pasture recently for recovery or maybe just sitting around not being worked regularly? Or is that “just her” and how she always is?

Need proper photos, baby photos say nothing.

I don’t see a roached back. I see a steep croup, a short hip and a bit of a hunters bump whivh is injury not conformation m

During the time you have been leasing the mare, have you been doing the kind of work that you would like to do if you own her? If so, six months a pretty good length of time for a “test ride” to drive out issues.

If you buy her, will you ramp up her work and start doing something new - like jumping?

Given the relatively short time frame you plan to own before reselling, is there a reason you can not continue leasing?

I don’t see a roached back either. Can’t tell much from the photos other than she needs a better feed program.

I am a guessing she is a work in progress? Not fit growing and poised to put on condition and weight? Since they don t walk on their heads I can not a whit what it looks like…LOL…Don t be put off by what you persevere as a Roach Back…once you build up muscle along the back it will disappear…If she does indeed have a true roach back…again who cares…I had a Sports Horse Vet who events to the upper levels tell me makes it easier for horse to bascule over a fence…The pasturns do look upright but without a good shot from the side on level ground capturing angle of heels not sure…How does she move…up down sewing machine or a long flowing step?
