No. He was pulled up because his horse was too tired. Two from home.
Yes I corrected that later when they corrected it.

Would you really have used her before Buck and Philip Dutton?
I’m thinking more globally and long term.

Sinead has been left off the team several times. Last time I believe it was a bleeding issue that the selectors may have been concerned about. Then Sinead went on to come in 2nd in one of the big events in Europe.

This time around she’s left off yet again (but allowed to ride as an individual) then is one of the better placed US riders amongst a group where some didn’t even finish.

She has more than shown she’s capable and worthy of being on the team.

A refusal for Selena at the Rolex water. What a bummer!
Did she finish?

WFP #1 !!
Surprise!

tomorrow should be quite interesting. I hope all the horses wake up refreshed.

Yes, she did. She looked super everywhere else.

Totally agree.
Watching it. Really not bad to watch. Riding well for the most part. Falls not super scary. More drive bys and just horses getting tired but many are finishing decently.
I agree – not scary watching (in general) the runouts. Most of them are “steering problems” – which, I am assuming, are not the result of lack of steering, but rather of the lines taken to avoid the worst of the footing which then create a less than optimal approach to a corner jump or a very off angled jump

To me, the scariest moments are the ones in which the rider and horse get in wrong to the first of a combination and somehow manage to make it through. The last German lady had such a moment at one of the water complexes. She got in wrong to A and ended up jumping the C element practically behind the saddlle. But she quickly reorganized and galloped on. My gasp even woke up my dogs on that one.

So far I think that Gin and Juice is the only horse to be eliminated after the finish (by the vet?). Or have there been others?

For those not watching, the announcer clarified that any country without 3 riders finishing automatically gets 1000 penalty points. That is why the overall score never shows a team elimination.

It appears that 9 teams finished (with Spain in 9th). The other teams are still showing on the scoreboard but each of those have penalties over 1000 = no team score.

Completely agreed. I would have used both Sinead and Kim ahead of Lynn and Buck, and said so on Thurs, so it isn’t hindsight. Sinead had our best international finish in many many years at Burghley, and Kim and Sparky are XC machines, never mind Kim’s amazing years with Winsome Adante.

That said, this is by far the best team we’ve fielded in a very, very long time. There is a lot of depth we haven’t had since probably the 80s.
Did she finish?
Yes. 44th

There’s only 0.5 of a penalty point separating 2nd through 5th:eek::eek:

It will squeaky bum time in the showjumping tomorrow.

Does anyone know the details on Hawley and Gin & Juice?
Hoping Ginny is ok.

She had three stops…Elimination.

I thought she finished after her stops - I think I read somewhere she was eliminated after finishing. And if she was eliminated on course why continue?
Maybe I have pieces of the info wrong. Are there detailed xc results anywhere?

I hope everyone has cooled-out in good shape and ready to fight another day. What an incredibly intense and demanding course.

I don’t mean to pick on anyone in particular, but quotes like this drive me nuts:

It’s an immense track and we HOPED we were fit enough and something like this, we have to do more than hope, we have to know. All the traveling we have to do hurts us and takes our edge away – no excuses – we just need to be that much more fitter. We know that these horses are young and old and some have issues - now we need to find six High Kingdom’s! and Rocana’s

How do you know that anyone was HOPING for anything? You know all of these riders? They just HOPED things would go well and didn’t do their damnedest to prepare? I’m sure you could do a better job getting an ISH fit enough to run a 4* in the mud, than the current FEI ranked #3 or #5 riders in the world? Trading Aces’ fitness issues in particular have been well-publicized and everyone has said they have worked extremely hard on it and he is going extremely well. I saw him at Richland at this time last year and the transformation between then and now is apparent, with another year at the top level. It was a huge, demanding, technical course that took down a lot of top combinations. The US sent some very good pairs to the WEG and some of them stuggled, the same as the horses from every other country.
/end rant.

Buck, quoted on EN:

“Yes, it’s the World Championships, but he’s still my pet and he’s still one of the greatest horses I’ve ever ridden and I would never want anything to happen to him.”

And we’re still very proud of you, Buck!

Harry Meade’s horse dies after XC…sad.

Ah Jesus, no :(. That’s terrible. Do you know what happened?

Edit: I see they’re saying he just collapsed and died.

OMG, that’s so sad! My condolences go out to Harry and his team. What a heartbreak. Does anyone know why the horse died?
I don’t know much about XC but should these horses be conditioned enough to make it around the course without killing the horse?
