Cross-post- Easily Accessible Lesson Barns Near Boston

I moved to the Boston area fairly recently and for a while, was just trying to get used to the whole living on my own thing. Now that I’m more settled, I could really use some help finding a barn. I’m not especially picky about discipline as I have done dressage, hunt seat eq, and eventing, but I do not have my own horse. When riding consistently, I have been schooling 2’6" (though I haven’t jumped in a while, so would need to start lower) and 2nd level dressage.

Location wise, I can do anything that’s within a cheap Uber/Lyft distance from the T/commuter rail or Newton Highlands. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

How long of a T/Commuter rail are you willing to do?

There are a lot of barns in the Hamilton/Ipswich area and there are a lot in the Concord/Acton area.

Are you looking for lessons or a lease? Lease costs are often related to board rates which tend to be cheaper on the northshore than metrowest (honestly I don’t know why but they are).

An HJ barn with lesson horses in Ipswich: Ascot Farm. About 4 miles from the train station so bikeable. I’ve known the proprietors for years. They are horsemen and women, and teach that very well. Besides lessons in the ring, they hack out, sometimes go to the hunt, and best of all do beach rides in the winter (only time the beach is open).

In Hamilton, about 1 1/2 miles from the train station is Ledyard Farm. Super people, don’t know if there are lesson horses, but half lease may be available. Great hacking over hallowed eventing ground on property. (Anybody remember Boogolly’s Pit?)

Both places have indoor rings and have truly excellent instructors who always put the horse first.

Best of luck!
