The reporter rides and shows herself.

Yes, the reporter rides, but she did a story about Michael Barisone was pretty poor, IMO. It was one sided and superficial.

That may be.

But I would say she still has a much better grasp of horse related things than a reporter who does not ride.

Her article on MB was poorly researched if I remember correctly…hopefully this one is better written!

That was underwhelming. For a person who claims to ride and know horses, her descriptions of the sport are inelegant at best, and her “perspective” had no real strength.

The article meandered and petered out at the end with a discussion of famous people riding on NYC streets. What was the central theme of the article meant to be?

This was the “reporter” who used Dressage Hub as a “source” in the MB days. Useless twit. (Useless being DH and the writer of this piece.)

WTH was that.

To be fair I don’t think I have ever read anything good that had horses at the centre. Writers never seem to be able to capture the “it” that we all feel and experience.

The one exception might be the Jilly Cooper books from the 90s (?) I remember liking those. But that could have been my youth and the smut factor, lol.

Have you read anything by Jane Smiley?

I don’t think this article was written solely for horse people :slightly_smiling_face:

It touched on just about everything that happened this year with comments from riders and coaches. For the non-riding public I think it gives a pretty good look at what has happened.

Yes I tried to view it from that lense. And am convinced any non horse person would have given up a third of the way through

I looked up Jane Smiley - I’ve never heard of her books but will see if the local libraries have them!

“Horses leaped and pranced during the Games amid the gardens where Marie Antoinette once strolled.”

Lost me right here.
Couldn’t she have found a better way to describe Olympic horses?
Leaped & Pranced = :face_vomiting:

@Pehsness Jane Smiley’s A Year at the Races is a good read :+1:
I also like Michael Korda’s Horse People

Yeah, I quit reading after “leaped and pranced,” too.

At least when Stephen Colbert called dressage fancy prancing he meant it to sound funny.

Smiley’s Horse Heaven is terrific, as well.

Agreed, I’ve read that too.
Title slipped my aging mind.
