So glad everyone made it home safe and sound. What a relief.

Well, I do know that the trainer stays very busy, but I just don’t understand why they can’t just take a minute to give one of us a call to update. I’m just not sure what happened, because I never had a problem getting returned calls before the second horse went down there, and when I do get e-mails they are apologetic and postive.

You need to do what you need to do to see your horse, PERIOD. You are way past the point of needing to feel guilty or apologetic toward this trainer, NO MATTER how busy they may be. This is a ridiculous situation, and I’ve seen it too many times in the horse world–many trainers forget that they are PROFESSIONALS, and as such, owe you a certain level of courtesy and customer service. That is YOUR horse, do whatever you need to do to reassure yourself.

I swear, the things some horse professionals think they ought to be allowed to get away with amaze me.

Would you put up with a mechanic who refused to return your calls, refused to tell you what was going on with your car? I sure as hell hope not.

There really isn’t any excuse for this lack of communication, and if it were me in the situation, I’d be busily making other arrangements right now. I realize that this post sounds harsh, but I do think you’re being taken advantage of. Even if your horse is absolutely fine, you are being treated poorly.

Thank you very very much KS, I very much appreciate it. The horse is actually not mine - I recommended to friend to send him there…the small grey pony is mine.

I feel a lot more relieved now and will just wait to hear from her when she is not so busy. Thanks very much again!

and you don’t sound harsh. I am the kind of person who always returns calls the same day, keeps everyone updated, etc., so this kind of treatment is a complete surprise to me. I feel even worse since I referred the other people to this trainer - thinking I was doing them a favor. Not only am I worried, but I am also embarrassed. And there is no way that a trainer in a role reversal would accept this behavior, you are completely right.

Thank god for caller ID and that you can prove that the trainer has not called you as she alleges.

I hope you will have your pony come home on the same van and not have to go through this again with this lady.

Keep us informed. I, for one, am curious about the identity of this trainer as I have sale horses and am frequently asked if I will let them go out on trial. I would love to know who to avoid. If you would email me, that would be great.

I’m so glad your pony and your friends horse are OK. Sorry I was unable to be more helpful. Turned out the person I thought would know the trainer did not remember her (she has ADD doesn’t remember a lot…)

But now I’ll have something concrete of my own to remember about this person.

I’m curious as to the trainer’s reaction. Did you finally ever get in touch with her? What did she say? What was her excuse for not returning any of your calls? Did you get the help of someone on the BB to go and check out your ponies?

One last piece of advice. Take photos of your skinny horses ASAP especially if you are seeking legal counsel.

So glad everything has worked out for the best and you have your critters home safe and sound.

Other problem is that I have a lease contract through fall of this year, and both horses would have to be shipped. In order to ship them, we have to get vet certificates. In order to get vet certificates, we have to make an appointment for the vet to come out. In order to do that, we have to be able to get in touch with the trainer to make sure someone will be at the barn…it’s a total Catch 22.

Anonymous, if your horse is east of the Mississippi, feel free to drop me an e-mail and see if I will be nearby any time in the next few weeks.

Going on a month now since I began leaving the latest round of messages for trainer. Still no response to messages or the certified letter I sent - which I have not received the return recipt label on.

Kennett Square, if possible, could you e-mail me -I know you saw the one sale horse, but as far as I know, there have been no sightings of my pony and I would really like to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks to all who have helped!

I am in northern VA (near Manassas, Warrenton, Catlett, etc.) If it is somewhere close I would be willing to enquire.

sometimes phone bills are a good thing

Just a word of warning to all - be vewy vewy careful of who you send your horses to either to sell or on lease. I checked references up the ying-yang and still wound up in this situation. Be careful!!!

every little bit really helped - including all the great advice. It is very nice to have a network of Chron friends to count on for advice and support.

We never received a single call from the trainer since her last positive e-mail in May so we have no idea what her excuse or story was. The shipper called her last week to verify that she would be present, and she called them back to let them know she would be there to put the horses on the trailer.

The horses are just a tad lower weight than I like to see them - but definitely don’t look abused or neglected in any way.

please offer suggestions, thoughts…at the end of my rope

Please e-mail me. I have lost your previous e-mail. Thanks

Is there some reason you can’t go yourself. Don’t allow yourself to be the victim.

I had a terrible experience with a breeder and felt much as you do now. My mare ended up dead. Having gone through the experience once, I will never allow it to happen again.

Take a few days and go get the pony or have something legal drawn up and sent. Isn’t this considered breach of contract, assuming they have one.?

I hope Kennett Square is right and your horse is being marketed and cared for. However-we all need to act a little more like consumers. Think about it, how mad do you get when you reach the cashier and the scan price isn’t what the sale sign said and you stand there for 20 min until the mgr. clears the correct price saving you $2.95. Yet we send horses all over taking somebody’s word it’s o.k. When a trainer never returns calls or makes a weekly report we are not getting good service. Stop making excuses for this person. I can’t believe she does not have a cell phone, every trainer I see at the AA shows has one permanently stuck in their ear or flopping on their belt over a fence. At least they are in touch with their clients. This one sounds like she does not even consider you a client, she sure isn’t treating you like one.

Wanted to update everyone - I have been keeping quiet about what has been in the works so as not to jinx things, but I just got a call from my shipper and the horses are in the trailer and headed home.

Feels like the ulcer in my stomach is slowly disappearing, let me tell you…
