crosspost- Karl Niedersuss saddle

I rode in my trainer’s saddle the other day and had a fit over it, turns out it was a Karl Niedersuss, which I wasn’t familiar with.

A Dressage-y friend of mine happens to be selling hers for $500 and it’s my size. Any thoughts on this saddle or fitting things to watch for with these?

I am picking it up tomorrow to sit in on my mare and see if she likes it.

Any thoughts/ comments on these saddle would be appreciated.

I have both a symphony and an olympiqe. Both are older models. I ride several horses a day with them and they’ve held up very well. I love the fact that they don’t lock you in but it’s easy to find your position/spot to sit.

I have the Symphony and LOVE IT!!!

i had a symphonie and am so sorry i sold it!! it fit alot of horses and was comfortable. i agree with the previous poster regarding finding your spot.

My first dressage saddle was the Symphony. Nice saddle, had it for years, held up beautifully and fit a number of horses. Didn’t fit my current horse worth a damn, however–put me in a horrible chair seat, and rode up his neck, whatever I did to it.

They hold their value pretty well, so if it’s in decent condition, it fits your horse and you, $500 is a bargain.

If it suits you and your horse, go for it! Great price.

I have a Symphonie (semi-custom Hippostar) that has now been reflocked for three horses of my own and fits other horses well, too.

It’s a wide tree, 16.75 seat. It’s been a super saddle.

My friend had a Symphony. It was a bit hard, but she liked it. I didn’t realize they could be re-flocked, as I thought they used foam rather than wool.

I’ve been told the flocking is not always the best quality, (ahem) but, yes, they can be reflocked!

Love these saddles - have had them for years and they really hold up well. Not the cushiest to ride in, but comfortable and not like a board.

If your saddle rides up - there is a good chance it is too narrow, so really you can’t do anything to fix that. No pad will help - if the shoe is too small, it is too small and neither thick nor thin sock (pad) will help.

500 is a bargain - snap it up!

I’ve ridden in several. They are nicely made and hold up very well! Put the rider in a good neutral position.

A friend just sold an older Olympik for $800.

LOVE my Symphonie!!! :yes::yes::yes:

I’ve ridden in quite a few dressage saddles from big expensive ones to cheapos and this fit me the best. It also happens to fit my horse perfectly so I am very happy with it.

Excellent quality for the money and it is hard to find one used.

There are actually always some used ones on Ebay.
