Cubbing/Trail Riding Vest

I would love to hear what others wear during the dog days when trail riding/legging up for cubbing. I need a vest–lightweight, made for heat and with zippered pockets for my cell phone and car keys–and I cannot find anything suitable. I have tried an armband for my phone and one of the belt packs that runners use but wasn’t happy. I don’t want to use a saddle bag in case I part company with my trusty steed.
Any suggestions that come in subdued colors would be very much appreciated.

Pierogi–are you able to fit a large cell phone on the pockets? I love my fishing shirts for riding but none can hold a larger phone comfortably.

I have the iPhone 6 (not plus), and it fits just fine. Seems to me that a larger phone would fit, though I can’t speak to how comfortable it would be.

Places like Cabela’s and LL Bean often have great vests with lots of pockets in their hunting/fishing lines. And Duluth Trading company makes a gardener’s vests with tons of pockets.

LL Bean ~ several choices ~ that have worked nicely in the barn setting for me.

I also used to wear a travel vest by the Magellan Company, it’s super comfy, but has already worn out. So now I’m considering getting a new travel vest that will be as functional and comfy as my old Magellan vest. Foxfire looks like it is very well made with lots of pockets. I probably will get one to replace the old one. I have read the overviews here

Thanks!

Magellan catalog (is it still around?) had a lightweight travel vest with tons of pockets. I’d look there. I always leave my Keyes in my truck bed somewhere and tell someone in case I have to be airlifted out or something. Makes it easyer for those trying to get your rig back for you. I know this from having to try to get Keyes from someone already being taken to hospital.

I know this is old but it is still good information to have around.

I use a hip holster on my calf or thigh for my cell phone. Mine is black so it blends with my tall boot. It is also an easy place to grab in emergencies or to take pictures.

I never carry my keys. I have a good hiding place back at the truck and let the person I am with know where it is. DH knows where I hide it. This way if necessary the other person can get in the truck/trailer if we get separated or I get knocked out. I would hate to be at the hospital with the set of keys and my other rider stuck. Bonus is that I can’t accidentally lose the keys somewhere on the 12 mile trail ride/fox hunt. At least one of the hunt members I regularly ride with know where I hide the key.

I have my spare tire on the outside of the trailer with a cover. I put the keys in the spare tire cover and rezip it. I figure nobody would look there. The hay manger bags, in the dressing room or on top of one of the wheels seems too obvious.

Closing Time–I wish I had found that running belt last year! I started this thread because I needed to carry a few essential items on the trail in the hot, hot summer months. I did end up going with an LL Bean vest that is great in the spring and fall but still too warm for summer. I never considered the runners belt. As long it is snug and doesn’t bounce around I bet it will be perfect. I might also fit under a hunt coat quite nicely too.
