Cunningham vs. Ironman as Belgian Warmblood sire?
I love them both! Personally, if I had a mare to breed, I would reach out to the Stallion owners and ask their opinion. I have found you can rely on thier input as they have as much to loose or gain as you do.
Bill’s advice is excellent and both Stallion owners are super nice people.

Here is a more recent photo of my Ironman Filly, Ironrose, I have handled her myself in Hunter Breeding and she is kind, and sweet: http://www.herselffarm.com/images/NonTBFairChampionDSC_0018_resized.jpg

Best of luck, both stallions and their owners are superb!

Legaczy is BWP and is about as tall and leggy as they come. Super quiet too from what I saw of him at an inspection.
Legaczy will definitely give you size. His babies are huge. But he also gives beautiful movement, good brains, and a lot of bone. His oldest is doing FEH VERY successfully. The rest have all been competitive on the line and have free jumped well. The 2 year old colt that showed at Warrenton was second in the 2 y.o. U/s there. He is a lovely stallion, and his owner is THE BEST.

What about Apiro?!?

I have a Cunningham filly 2 years old - marketable hunter type out of a thoroughbred mare. Rocking horse canter, larger and leggier than this mare’s other two foals, short backed, did not add bone and did not add length to neck but that is the mare’s fault. The temperament is excellent, much better than either of her half siblings and much better than the mare. I have free jumped her only one time and she was superb - cantered down the line and jumped the fences like water flowing downstream. And the bonus is that she is sweet, sweet, sweet and loves to hang out with me. Will let you know how she is under saddle.

We have a 2012 Ironman filly and she went Premium at her GOV inspection. She has beautiful movement, is very refined, and was the best behaved baby there :)! She is very smart and social and playfully sweet! nancy is wonderful to work with and very helpful…she’s also great to talk to if you contact her with any questions!

Cunninghams at AHHA Inspection today

We bred our 15.3 H Jupiter mare (TB on the bottom -linebred to Princequillo and Mahmoud up close) to Cunningham and the cross produced a gorgeous bay turning gray filly named Emilia KF. She is leggy, very tall and typey and she has beautiful lofty movement. She went Premium (tied for high score foal with another Cunningham age 3 months - damsire Caretino) today at her AHHA Inspection at age 7 weeks. She looks to be a hunter deluxe but is so athletic and bold, yet also sensible, that jumpers is in the cards, too. Another Cunningham, age 3 yrs, also was named a Premium Mare and she was out of a Merano mare. She was almost 17 H! She looks like she could jump a house.

Wow! She sounds lovely! Do you have photos of your filly? I would love to see her.

ETA: In my mind, there is no question - Cunningham. I am a huge fan.

Wow - it really sounds like it would be hard to go wrong either way. I’ve had my reservations about the greys, but these boys are both so wonderful.

I’m coming into the discussion a bit late but wanted to add my .02 cents - but I’m not a hunter rider by any means fwiw.

A few years ago, I went out to see Ironman and Nancy was an awesome owner - she let me ride him! His changes through 2’s were fun, uphill and super easy and he was a flat out pleasure to ride. Very smooth in the trot and a super walk with a good swing through the back and overstep. His personality is beyond charming and he is the sweetest horse in the stable!

All of the offspring I saw had the same endearing personality and are very, very people oriented and “stamped” by him in conformation too.

I have 3 ironman offspring. Nancy is wonderful to work with and i just adore Ironman. All of his offspring have great personalities. We have had success in the hunter breeding ring as well as shows. One of my horses most recent successes has been with Instyle, he is a 4 year old Ironman baby and he is my 16 year old daughters 4-h production horse, with only 60 days under saddle he made it to states in Harrisburg to represent Montgomery co. That in itself is not an easy task but just goes to show how wonderful there temperment is and there willing to please. My three year old filly took second at the Devon horse show on the line for Pa bred. and my 5 five year old has been having success in the hunter ring . So I am very happy with all my babies.
