Curly hair on lower legs?

My mare’s winter coat on her legs grew in wavy this winter. This is the first winter this has happened. She is a coming 15 year old WB. The hair on the rest of her body is normal. Is this a first sign of cushings? She is a hard keeper, especially in winter, so no other typical signs.

Usually it’s wierd hair all over the body. However if you are worried, get the vet to run the blood test. Better to know one way or the other!

I know a few older horses with wavy leg hair and wondered the same. There is also one with practically an afro over his back and rump. Very weird, but so is owner, so won’t have him checked.

Vet said to test in the spring when she saw mare a few months ago. Is there a reason they run the bushings tests in the spring?
