I’m not able to go to the big shows this year (WEC, WEF and desert circuit) getting FOMO so I want to know what everyone is wearing, what every one is doing, and whats the hot new trends. Not looking for hate or judgements, just observations for those who can’t observe and droool ourselves. (Also have a horsey shopping addiction and want to know what’s in)
I’ve got nothing as I’m not showing currently That said, I am dying to hear that show shirts with color are coming back in style. I’d love to walk into the tack shops and see some color in the show shirt section again! Same with the jackets, although the are a bit better.
Also not showing ‘at that level’ what I’m seeing from Thermal this winter was navy coats with white shirts in the hunters. I saw a trend I dislike: the peplum style coats in the jumper ring! Why!? No one looks good in one and it distracts but that is just my lonely, old-lady opinion.
My two cents? As a low-level consumer buying for the hunter/equitation rings, I actually like the more uniform approach, with everyone in navy and black with a white shirt. Much less expensive to “in style” for the season, If you’ve got extra money to toss away (beyond the thousands and thousands to ride and show at the WEC/WEF/HITS level) then, buy the trendiest styles. I ain’t got that! Good to know my tech fabric coat that fits so well, and my plain white, easy wear/wash snap collar shirts will still be in fashion again this year!
Well, you are going to be disappointed unless seeing some shirts with colored body/sleeves but a white panel where it would be visible with your coat counts! I’ve been at both WEC and WEF this winter and both in the shops and on the exhibitors, you still predominantly see white shirts. I too miss the colors but welcome the breathable fabrics they have now!
Samshield. Everything Samshield. Charles Ancona also still very much alive, especially when it comes to pony hunter shadbellies. More safety vests being worn in both the hunters and the jumpers.
Dada Sport and Equiline also very popular.
Shirts are definitely bibs for the hunter where it’s white showing and maybe colors underneath. The most creative you’re getting with those are some bling on the colors, button line, and maybe a fancy top of the collar.
Felt like I was living on the cutting edge with a pocket square on my Samshield the other day in the hunters.
Technical fabrics are the BEST! I remember the eta of two way stretch Tailored Sportsman’s.
I love Cavalleria Toscana breeches and show shirts. Also Equiline. I have a shiny Samshield Miss shield…
My horse has Dy’on, Equifit polos and boots, and I love the silent ear bonnets. There’s a little black bling on that
If I sold an ovary on the black market I might be able to afford something from Dada lol
I’m at Thermal but have spent nearly all my time at the jumper rings.
From a distance, including schooling in the warmup ring next to the grass field during the hunter derby practice, the hunter style looks basically the same: tan-ish breeches, white shirts, dark coats. I think I’ve seen a few people over the last year showing in the hunters in one of those dark shirts that has a white collar, collar placket, and cuffs. The kids in the eq ring that is in the jumper area look pretty much like they have for the last ten years or so. I’m oblivious to brands so am useless there.
With jumpers there seems to be more white breeches. More Europeans?? People doing bigger classes that aren’t on Sunday?? There also seem to be some interesting-colored lighter jackets.
Peeking in from dressage land to say that we are the happening place for color and bling at the moment. Which seems really bizarre to this old lady
Not much to choose from, but The Wire Horse had blue and purple wrap collar shirts from RJ a couple weeks ago. They are not technical fabric, I think just cotton. And I have no idea if they were way-old remnants of seasons past or something new. Guessing the former as I didn’t see anything similar on the RJ site.
I know… I’m old enough to remember when Essex Classics used to seem expensive at Bevals. Sigh… and here we are.
I’m in love with the Luna performance shirts from Essex. I have a nearly identical one from RJ classics, navy blue, with white down the front, white collar and cuffs. I bought it 8ish years ago and get compliments all the time. My favourite thing about it? No pit stains. I spent years looking for something similar (I hate the bib look that other brands are doing). Finally found the Luna ones at WEC Ohio in December. I stocked up since I couldn’t find them anywhere in Canada.
I love the classic look with the jacket, and the technical fabric and design are very flattering.
I was trying horses at WEF today and browsed the shops…and the riders’ wardrobes! I saw a lot of people in tech fabric turtleneck shirts instead of quarter zips. There were also some cool perforated sunshirts.
The shops had shirts and breeches in some beautiful colors, but as we headed through the barn areas, everyone’s schooling attire seemed to be a sea of gray, black and navy. My “local show” kids even noticed it.
Lots and lots of equiline breeches. Still a lot of Tailored Sportsman.
You could not get an off-the-rack coat for a teenage boy. Most shops had no men’s coats. Charles Ancona could only do custom. Cindy Hadfield told me she was having trouble finding companies that make men’s coats… puzzling to me because there are a lot of male riders there. Are they all wearing custom coats?
Maybe they are buying coats from Europe since there are so many male riders there.
