I’ve heard a rumor that next year the jackets won’t be so ridiculously blingy. Is that true? Is less bling coming into style?
I ride HUS on the ApHC circuit (trends pretty much follow the AQHA trends), but I have a mare that is nice enough to do Non-Pro halter and I want to get some halter points on her. So I’m needing a show jacket. I’d like something that I can use for both Halter and Showmanship because I’m thinking of training her for Showmanship next year too. Typically on the ApHC circuit, the open halter exhibitors wear little to no bling on their halter outfits. But the non-pro exhibitors often have bling because it is acceptable to use your showmanship outfit in non-pro halter… definitely no showmanship clothes in open halter though.
Last year the trend was “more is better” as far as bling went. Every inch of the jackets were covered in crystals and embellishments, so much that the jackets weighed a ton and an average jacket was between $2500 and $3000.
I won’t be doing halter and showmanship at the World and National level, I only do HUS and over fences at the big shows. This will just be for points and for fun. So I don’t want to spend $3000. I don’t want to spend more than $700 or $800. I don’t mind buying slightly used either.
However I don’t want to get something with tons of bling if that trend is going away. So what is the latest trend? Has anyone else heard that bling is going by the wayside? What do you think 2014 trends will look like?
