Custom boots for those of us with FOOT issues

Ok, so after a visit with the podiatrist and getting new orthotics, it has become apparent that my current Petrie dressage boots do not fit and cannot be stretched enough to make them work in the foot area (they fit fabulously in the ankle/calf). My local tack store would love to measure/order me a pair of German dressage boots but I’m wondering if I need to go to more of a specialist for this. ??? It’s kinda scary to think about spending $1200+ on boots that may or may not help my issues. Is there someone that maybe does custom paddock boots?? (less $$??) I really need someone experienced in this. Thoughts??

NO one, really??

All the custom paddocks (and tall boots) I’ve seen seem to stick to the narrow toe paradigm.

Like you still get the pointy toe whether you need it or not.

Since I don’t show - I totally gave up.

If you google ‘custom paddock’ boots you will find some manufacturers (Koop is one, and I know that there is a UK one…).

If you find anybody that will make a WIDE toebox, let me know. Right now I’m riding in really old, bulbous toed Keens…

Try Kroop Boots in Laurel MD.

Randy Kroop is the best. I went to have custom boots measured. When the boots were ready, she fine tuned the boots for differences between Left-Right feet.

Don’t think they will cost $1200.

Please let me know what you find out. I ended up getting Treadstone tall boots because they were the only ones I could walk in. I haven’t found a pair of paddock boots that don’t hurt. Nothing I’ve tried will accommodate my orthotics and nothing in the speciality show store is suitable for riding.

Get rid of the orthodtics, they are not necessary and rarely help people. A good dr scholls gel insert is just as good. Look you’re not running in your riding boots, no need for orthotics. Just
get wide confortable foot bed, wider than you think you need. I have a permenantly broken ankle, dead bone and live with a P.T.I’ve been dealing with a bad foot for 20 yrs. now.
You need to pay attention to what works for you, price is not the answer its size and feel, dump those inserts. You need confort it doesn’t take orthotices for a sittin trot , your not a endurance rider.
Remember most medical people teat all of us the same and few understand riding and all the difference in our style of riding and sport…
There are so many good inserts offf the rack now find what feels good, experiment.

I have bunions, and my feet are not shaped/sized the same. I got custom La Mundial boots a year ago, and they are fabulous. The woman who measured me was very careful with my left foot vs. right, and the boots fit like a glove and are very comfy in the toe. I got square toes–they offer more toe space. I realize you want dressage boots, and mine are field style, but I do think a quality boot maker and an excellent measurer will do the job for you.

I like to “Shop USA”…Kroops is one of the last US-based bootmakers

Hadn’t been here for awhile, glad I checked back. I did contact Kroop’s and they very quickly sent me a measuring guide. Although I’m on the other side of the country and would rather have them measure me in person, I have to think this is a better choice than dealing with someone in a totally different country. I’ll keep you all posted…
