Custom Boots - USA Made

Are there any custom boots that are made in the USA? I need to order some new boots & am starting to worry that the tariffs will effect the price, so wondering what other options there maybe. Just so I can consider while I choose what to do.

Thanks!

Dehner and Vogel are both made in the USA and make excellent boots. Their materials are likely imported, so I’d expect price increases.

If you can get your hands on Vogel boots first I would recommend checking them out. There were some leather quality questions since Kask bought them, but they do seem to be rectifying that.

Vogel is not made in the U.S. since being acquired by Kask. The boots are made in Italy.

Unfortunately, even if they are made in the US, the raw material to make the boots (leather, soles, etc) is very likely imported. So expect a rising cost either way.

I think DerDau are still made in NY.

It seems like some folks get lucky with DerDau and their boots come out great, but some folks end up with nightmares on their hands. If you go with them, pay with an American Express so you have recourse to reverse the charge if they screw your order up (Amex is great about taking the customer’s side in these types of disputes). I have a friend who really went through the ringer with DerDau on customs that were so wrong it was almost comical.

With Italian leather, so will also be affected by tariffs.

I second the Dehner recommendation. Mine are 25 years old and look exactly the same as they did the day I got them, they’re basically indestructible

I think the LM guys is based in Wellington and Ocala. So not sure if he has them constructed outside of US, but their shop locations are usually here.

Honestly, unless you really need customs, there’s so many semi-custom off-the-rack options available. I am a weird fit, but I’ve managed to find a solution in Fabbri, Tucci, and Parlanti.

LM boots are manufactured in South America (if I’m remembering correctly mine came from Peru). I love mine, but they aren’t the solution for anyone looking for US-made boots.

My Dehner paddocks are now 23yo.
They are victims of my non-care, benefitting from the very occasional Murphy’s Soap cleaning & even rarer conditioning (Black Rock)
Still wearable, though elastic is shot & a resole wouldn’t hurt.

Yes, but a fraction of paying tariffs on the full retail value of imported custom boots.

It’s really not that simple, unfortunately.

They are hand made in Uruguay.

Appreciate the correction, it’s been multiple years since I got mine so all I could remember is the tracking said they were in Peru at one point

I didn’t mean to sound short! Was on my phone instead of my normal system. The only reason I know that is because I went with my young neighbor when she went to get measured for her first custom boots with LM in December. I was really impressed with the measuring process and the quality. I was somewhat familiar with Paraguayan leather workers—not for horse stuff—and so wasn’t surprised when I learned these were from Uruguay. I have custom Dehners from 50 years ago that I still can wear although they are not in style and since I don’t show, I don’t care!
