Custom double bridle - anyone ever used Black Horse Leather in Montana?

Hi, all.

I’m looking at purchasing my horse’s first double bridle to call his very own, but I’m not 100% “in love” with what I’m finding out there. I recently ordered a lovely bridle that I’m sending back because the color just isn’t quite right. Ideally, I want one that can match my saddle which is cognac, black, and cream. I’ve looked into the Schumachers, but I feel like I’ve read on here that the quality isn’t necessarily all that great given the amount of money you’re spending. I sent a message to the woman in Germany who does all the awesome Petrie boots (and also sells Doebert bridles) to inquire whether or not Doebert could make something like what I want but am waiting to hear back. Halter Ego has a couple of bridles I’m tempted to try, but after some of the reviews here, I’m a little worried about the fit.

When I Googled custom bridles, I came across this site for Black Horse Leather, and it looks like they could be an option as well. Has anyone here ordered from them before? (I did a search but didn’t see anything on the forums, but I could have missed it.) Or, does anyone have other suggestions? I’ve been looking at bridles all over the place: Montar, Finesse, Kingsley, Bridle 2 Fit, Lumiere, MacRider, Solo, Passier, Stueben…most are more utilitarian, which is great, and I know that the judges don’t care and neither does my horse (with the exception of it fitting him properly) but I’m a nerd and have a vision for what I’d love to have…if it is possible.

Thank you!

I have. I’ve known Carol for decades, since she got her first Friesian. I have also purchased browbands and bridles from her over the years. The craftsmanship is excellent. I can recommend Black Horse Leather very highly.

Thank you so much! This is wonderful to hear. I did hear back from Kitty with German Tack, so I’ve got two good companies to choose from between Black Horse and Doebert. It makes me really happy to hear that there’s a quality company here in the States who can make nice English-style bridles.

Thank you for that feedback; she DOES seem lovely! I’m tempted to order boots from her as well, once I get the bridle squared away. The boots in the photos on her FB page all look so elegant!
