Custom Saddlery Monoflaps....

Does anyone currently ride in one of these? I am having a Custom Rep come out this weekend (originally for a dressage saddle) but due to a recent diagnosis for my horse, I need an adjustable tree.

Anyone have opinions on them? Resale value? Custom sometimes has some crappy quality (we have a problem with stitching and glue coming undone with the double leather on the bottom of flap on the vienna options).

You don’t see many of these on the market so I don’t have much to go off of.

I have a 2012 Icon Star dressage saddle. I bought it used in 2014 from it’s original owner. I’ve been very happy with it and have had no problems with its integrity and have ridden in it a lot. I find it super comfortable and have even ridden in it on hours long trail rides.

I had an Icon Flight that I used for about 2 years then sold it for what I felt was a good price (not too high, not too low). I’ve found them to be very comfortable and I like the adjustability. However, the point billet was no longer working for my horse so I had to get something else.

If I were you, I’d try to find a demo model or a lightly used one so if you are concerned about resale you can get more money out of it. You might try some of the dressage retailers on the east coast or in the mid-atlantic area. I’ve seen quite a few customs at one of the shops in NJ.

And they are also on eBay pretty regularly and seem to hold their value well. I bought my off of eBay.

I just scored a 2016 18.5" Icon Star on eBay for $2500. I think due to the size, mine was in less demand and hence priced as it was (new is $4500+.)

I tried one last year and have been scrimping and saving for when I could eventually order one. Lo and behold, dream saddle on eBay. I absolutely love how it puts me in such an ideal position.

My horse seems to go well in it too. I’ll have my regional/local fitter out to evaluate the fit and adjust as needed. If for some reason she says that it doesn’t work, I’ll get rid of it. (He’s six and may have changed a bit from when I tried it last year.)

I used to ride in an icon flight and have ridden i quite a few other models (some i loved, some I didnt). So I was more curious if anyone has used their jumping saddles. They don’t seem overly popular but I really have my heart set on an adjustable tree and wool flocking so it can most likely be fitted to any horse.

I was more thinking along the lines how I love Dev’s Chiberta but am not a huge fan of the dressage saddles. They are nice but not by a long shot my first choice for dressage saddle.

Yeah, no experience with their jumping saddles and after dropping serious change on one of their dressage saddles, I went with a Kentaur Eventer II monoflap jumping saddle with foam panels, so that’s no help. All I will say is that I’ve put my Custom saddle on a lot of horses and while obviously it didn’t fit everyone of them perfectly, with a good pad or pads, it’s done very well and again, I’ve had no issues with saddle integrity. Happy shopping.

You have a number of options for adjustable trees and wool flocked. Hastilow offers these in both a dressage and jump, and I am pretty sure they offer monoflap for both.

I have a custom coronado monoflap – love it. Had it 4 years now and it still looks brand new. Zero quality complaints.

I have a custom Saddlery Laguna that I bought for $1200 locally. I love it !!! Custom Saddlery has great reps and I think they have so many options since they are wool flocked.

I also use a devoucoux chiberta as a Jump saddle.

I should have written my original post more clearly but I was wondering av
bout their jumping options.

The rep came out today but pending a 5 day trial (although I’m already sold) I will be the new owner of a Wolfgang omni (dressage). Love at first sit.

I also am taking a monte Carlo on trial for 10 days but I wasn’t in love and for almost 4k I should want it for my office chair but I was not in love. But of course the horse liked it so unless I fall in love over the next week I’ll still be on the hunt.

I’ven never heard of hastilow saddles and after a bit if research they don’t hold their value like a “big name” brands do. And I do think big name band saddles become big for a reason.

Can anyone think of a jumping saddle with an adjustable tree/wool flocking with a chiberta feel?

I adore my amerigo mono flap. I’ve also ridden in some of their saddles with 2 flaps and like those as well. Interestingly, not a fan of their dressage saddles.
