I want to replace the screen doors in my barn - these are outside doors that go behind the dutch doors that I keep open in summer. I used Frey Brothers to make custom doors for me before but they no longer do this kind of stuff. I want only 3 doors that include a “dip” so the horse can put their head out. Any suggestions? I may have to do custom since this is for a 100 year old bank barn.
I had a local carpenter/handyman type do this for me. I showed him some pictures of what I wanted and he came out to do the measurements, made them off-site in his shop, and came back to install.
I’m not aware of a commercial supplier that would do something like this, but maybe others are1
Finding local help where I live is almost impossible and it would take a welder to create these and a carpenter to install. There are vendors that make these - Lucas Equine Equipment, for example makes them. I just don’t buy anything anymore without a recommendation.
Perhaps a custom window company could fabricate theses screens for you. A couple friends with elderly houses had such companies come in to make new window frames with metal to hold the new Windows and screens. Almost none of the windows were exactly the same size for standard windows. Some openings had gotten slightly mishaped over the years. So the new windows and framing had to be constructed on site.
Both friends were very happy with their new windows! Fit fully into the openings, no outside air leaking in. Insulated well, saved on heating costs. Windows open and shut easily still, after several years.
Perhaps a custom window company
or an ornamental fence company who actually builds their fencing/gates? The ones I sold to could easily fabricate screen door panels using the existing personal gate patterns they are accustom to using.
If you used Frey are you local to central PA? Sunset Valley will custom fabricate. Easy to work with for my semi custom work I needed in my slightly odd sided renovation.
No I am not in PA. Frey does not do this anymore unfortunately but I found a vendor in KY who makes these. Thanks,
