Custom tall boot brand advice?

I’m currently in the market for buying some new custom tall boots but I have no clue which brand to go with! There are so many on the market these days: De Niro, Dehner, Der Dau, Tucci, Fabbri, Parlanti the list goes on. Does anyone have any experience with any of these brands and have a recommendation? Thank you

No experience (yet, hopefully someday!) but Hunky Hanoverian has a review of DeNiro on her blog, and a brand that has really caught my eye is Celeris!

Fratelli Fabbri (back in the day they were Figli Fabbri) and Dehner are what I swear by. I still have my boots from Fabbri from when I was a junior across the pond.

I love my custom Vogel dress boots. But have no idea if the craftsmanship is the same now as it was way back when. Mine were made in 1984.

Not!

My Vogel’s are great. Until I gained weight. Ugh but I got them 5 years ago and they are fantastic

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Der Dau. I’ve gotten two pairs of custom boots from them and I absolutely love the boots and the service I’ve received. I know that some people have had difficulty with them from a customer service perspective, though, so it may be hit-or-miss.

I’m one of the ones who had a horrible experience with Der Dau. If you order from them, pay with credit card so that you have the chargeback option if it doesn’t go well. My boots showed up, not even close to fitting, I could have stored everyone’s cell phones in my boots while we rode they were cut so big at the top, and the feet were two different sizes (but my feet are not!). I dealt with the company, and it was a 6 month ordeal. They damaged the boots trying to make them fit (and really, they needed to be remade from the beginning) and sent them back to me with holes where the snaps had been, horrible stitching, and they tried to iron the wrinkles out of the leather. All of this after the customer service rep had told me they would make me a new pair. When I said this was unacceptable, I received an incredibly nasty email saying I wasn’t entitled to any remedy at all, sent at the direction of Joseph Der. In the end, the customer service woman knew I was getting screwed, and that she had promised me new boots, and she stood by her word and put the order through. The new pair is beautiful and fits great, but it is safe to say the ordeal sucked all the joy out of it for me.

My personal advice to the OP is that if you can wear any of the nice off the rack options that are available now, go that route and make custom ordering a last resort. Off the rack you know what you are getting and that they will fit, when you custom order it is a crap shoot, it could be great or it could be a disaster, for twice the cost.

I own two pairs of Celeris and cannot praise them enough for both quality and customer service. And price! They are getting more expensive as the brand gains popularity, but they’re still much cheaper than my Der Daus were.

Thank you to everyone for your responses!

Waiting for my Celeris boots to arrive. So far a really good experience getting measured and figuring out the right customization. They have tons of sample boots in their U.K. showroom and I was really impressed with the leather quality and construction - they look like they will hold up to lots of riding. Fingers crossed they fit perfectly!

Look in to LM Boots. Whitney Blanchard does a great job fitting and they are a real quality product with a great price point.

Stay away from Dehner. The customer service is awful and the final product is too. Mine were not usable until I had a leather shop work on them. If you want Dehner’s buy them off the shelf.

I have custom Tucci, Parlanti. and La Mundial. Off the rack De Niros. I love my Tuccis. The price point is much better than the Parlantis and they just fit me better. I love my DeNiros too, although they took some more work to break in.

I just ordered Tucci’s and although I don’t have them yet, I’m already impressed. They start at about the same price point as all the others big brands and they have a lot of options you can add for no extra charge that the other brands will nickle and dime you to death for. The only thing extra I paid for was a profile of crystals along the top because I am a bling ho  The samples I saw were gorgeous and now I have to impatiently wait 12 weeks for mine

OP, try to go to a show where multiple boot vendors are so that you can try their off the rack before narrowing in on going custom. Each bookmaker has inherent biases- even when they’re measuring you. So if something just feels better off the rack, its likely that that boot maker will fit you better overall

Good advice thank you!
