Custom Top Boots

My graduation present is going to be a pair of patent top boots, along with a more “funky” coloured full laced type for clinics and home.

With only a handful of subjects to go, I’ve been looking at my options. I’m going with a local bootmaker who did my husbands boots for the patent ones. However, for the other ones there seem to be so many options.

So far, I’ve got the following brands on my list.

DeNiro
Kingsley
Celeris
Lipica

Any other suggestions?

As far as I know, De Niro has the widest selection for customization. Also, keep in mind that patent on boots can be hard in the folds of the ankle region. Within about six months, the patent started curling up on mine. Was a huge hassle to get it fixed with De Niro and I eventually just sent it somewhere else to be fixed (at my expense). I don’t know that my situation was a fluke, so just FYI that it may not hold up to regular schooling.

Love my Kingsleys. Zillions of options and very reasonable price.

Yeah I’ve seen this happen. I’m going to just get the patent on the calf section because of that.

Petrie also offers a range of colours and textures you can customize your boot tops (and other parts with). But from that list, based on the successful shopping adventures of several friends, I would go with Kingsley.

My trainer rides in Celeris and I love DeNiro and/or Konig for durable classic boots. No matter who you talk to you’ll hear good and bad things about every brand but DeNiro has been around a LONG time and has a pretty positive reputation as opposed to newer boot companies (Celeris and Kingsley).

Petrie has a nice full lace-up boot which can be completely customized.
Alberto Fasciani does field boots (just laced at the instep/ankle). They also have some funky sports options.

I’ve been happy with my off the rack Petrie’s, so I’m scheming on buying a custom pair from them in the not too distant future. Did read on here about someone’s Kingsley’s falling apart, so might be something to look into before buying them for an every day boot.
