CWD Buffalo Leather

I just purchased a new to me CWD saddle with the buffalo leather and wanted to see if anyone else has experience taking care of the buffalo leather?

I will clean it after every ride obviously but what about oiling and conditioning? I got a CWD leather care kit that came with saddle soap and conditioner. So how often do y’all condition or oil your buffalo saddles? I’ve heard as often as once a month, especially since I live in FL.

Thanks so much!

I have a buffalo Voltaire. I clean it after every ride with saddle soap, but only condition it with the goop about once a month (maybe twice a month during the summer show season). I’ve had it for about 3 years and it still looks and feels amazing. Enjoy.

I’m the same way. My CWD is buffalo and still new (just coming on a year old). I basically condition whenever it seems dry which seems to be about once a month or so. I think overconditioning is just as bad as under.

I have a 5 year old CWD, buffalo, and I live in Florida. Our climate is harsh and ranges from dry to humid sometimes in the same day. If it feels dry or less sticky than normal I use conditioner on it, no matter when I did it the last time. I use saddle oil on the panels and Antares cream on the seat and flaps. Listen to the leather, it will tell you what it needs.

Thanks for the replies. I am enjoying the new saddle and this will help to keep it looking great!

I have a CWD with full buffalo and I don’t plan to ever put oil on it - haven’t needed to in the 2 years that I have had it. I love the CWD conditioner but personally will only clean my saddle with HSLC.

I have a 2008 full buffalo cwd. I got it used and honestly I don’t take very good care of it and it still looks good! I clean it with higher standards a couple times a week and condition with effax conditioner about once a month. Oil maybe once a year if it needs it.

I have always heard not to oil the panels much as the foam paneling on a CWD can absorb the oil.

Never heard that, thanks for sharing! I may be rethinking my choices on the underside of my saddle.
