CWHBA stallion, Beau Soleil

I would appreciate any information that breeders have about the foals of the Canadian Warmblood stallion, Beau Soleil, (their conformation, temperament, athleticism, show records). He is located in Alberta.

I am considering a late breeding of a premium MMB A-D line Hanoverian mare to this G-line stallion. I hadn’t planned on breeding her this year, but I have decided last minute that I will try for one last foal from her and then retire her.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Carol, I can’t comment so much about his foals but do REALLY like him in person. He is a lovely looking stallion (gorgeous head, good bone and nice topline) and he has a WONDERFUL quiet personality. I ride at the arena all the time where he is at so see him quite a bit. They have a tonne of foals there but haven’t paid too much attention to which are his to really feel like I can comment on them.
However, my friend did buy a nice Beau Soleil mare from Chris earlier this year and she was a very good mover and has a great mind as well.

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for those comments, appreciate that. I also have a friend who has a lovely Beau Soleil mare and she has a fantastic, easy-going temperament, and is just a kind, kind soul. She had a career-ending tangle with a fence, so I could never see her movement. In addition to the conformation and movement, of course, I was just wondering whether Beau Soleil tended to consistently produce this quiet, level-headed sort of temperament. The mare I am considering breeding to him is very hot and so I have to be careful with stallions - she has very flashy, extravagant movement but she is Madame Drama Queen. I have crossed her with Regazzoni and her foal turned out a bit quieter, down to a 6.5/10, instead of the mare’s decided 8/10 on the heat scale.

My coach has bred a few Beau Soleil babies, and for the most part, they tend to be good, elastic movers with a good jump, and they are all pretty easy-going.

An amatuer friend of mine has one that she rides successfully at 2nd level. He is super quiet but not at all thick, and always makes her feel safe (a HUGE criteria for her as her last horse really busted up her confidence). He is a nice enough mover as well, not super extravagant yet still competitive in an area full of nice horses at shows. She loves him to bits!
I myself have a Bajazzo (Beau Soleil’s sire) broodmare with an unbeatable temperament, and good loose movement.

Don’t know much about Beau Soliel …but have you considered Le Primeur? He has such an incredible temperament and rideability I don’t think you could go wrong that way…and he is close as well.

I have really liked the offspring of his that I have seen. That said . . . If I had a MMB Hano mare, I think I would try to breed her to a Hano approved stallion. There a couple of really nice ones in Canada. Le Primeur is a very nice one, also Wolkentanz II and Harvand. What discipline are you hoping to breed for?

Forte, just a quick aside - I had a Widukind gelding. Loved him.

The mare has a story. Her breeder imported the dam from Celle State. Amongst the other offspring she had, her last was my mare. The owners at that time were in the midst of divorce and while she was sent to Spruce Meadows for her mare show and placed 3rd in Canada, they failed to pay all the required fees, so obviously the verband did not issue her papers. Albert Kley remembers branding the mare too. Anyway, long story short, she fell into considerable neglect and then I got her. The first project for me was tracking her papers. Many emails to the Verband and they found her number and papers but required me to back pay some several thousand dollars in mare fees, plus the inspection fees, registry fees, membership fees, blah, blah. I said NO WAY! So I turned to the CWHBA and because I had the breeding contract, vet records, including foaling record, the blood type cards of sire and dam, plus Albert personally branded her at her mother’s side, CWHBA registered her and due to her exceptional pedigree, they put her in their MMB. So, I don’t necessarily need to go directly to the H approved stallions. She is H branded but CWHBA registered/approved.

I do like Wolkentanz II and I’m considering him for my Royal Senna mare next year. Wolkentanz II tends to improve legs, neck and topline. This mare, however, needs to be in close proximity to the stallion and she’s a challenge for the vet to inseminate due to delayed uterine clearance and uterine fluid pooling.

She is dressage lineage all the way through her top notch damline, and her sire is jumping (owned by Spruce Meadows). The mare can do either and I would prefer a stallion who is well-rounded. She is a bit long in the back and needs a shorter back. The biggest issue is she is very hot. The stallion must be fairly prepotent about calmness.

What a shame about the H papers. Have you thought of AHS? She sounds like a lovely mare.

Le Primeur has an outstanding temperament…though he is longer framed . I think in all other ways though he would be super…have you talked to Albert about him? If I had to stay local for stallions he would be my # 1 hands down.

The Brinkmans also have a nice young stallion by the name of Quidam Blue. He is a cute mover and has a good hind end…if your mare is a good mover that might be a good match. He seems to have a nice temperament too.

Rodawn, Oldenburg (GOV) may be another possibility for your mare. Have you talked to them? That might open up some additional stallion options for you.

CWHBA will accept the foals of KWPN, GOV stallions or Han Verband approved stallions, as well as foals sired by American Hanoverian, KWPN-NA, and OLD NA stallions (supply their testing results), which is really nice. I don’t know how long that situation will continue, however.

Le Primeur is lovely but his type doesn’t suit this mare.

Thanks for the further info Rodawn. If you want to stick with a stallion in AB, how about Apanarde? He was a GP jumper, but from what I see of his offspring, they are very nice movers and fairly shortcoupled. I met him and a number of his offspring when I visited Sigma Warmbloods last year and was quite impressed. He is approved with Swiss and CWHBA I believe.

Beau Soleil

We bred a Beau Soleil daughter in 2008 to Oberon. She is not a tall mare, but very athletic, and although had a tiny shade of attitude (she had been mainly out in the pasture for the Winter before coming here), she was a doll to handle. She is out of a mare by Fils de Lully/Sanstrum. Her foal last year was outstanding according to her owner, and she is considering keeping him as a stallion prospect. This is a person who has been breeding warmbloods for a good number of years, originally from BC. I have also seen other Beau Soleil’s and have liked most of them to date, as they are attractive and seem to have good natures.
Apanarde would have been an excellent choice, another horse whose offspring I have seen a number of, in fact, I really wanted to bred to him to a daughter of Atillo, for a dressage prospect, however, sadly, Sigma Warmbloods lost Apanarde early this year.
There are a goodly number of stallions that one can consider in Alberta that is for sure! What about MJ Farms young stallion? He is certainly attractive, seems to have a head on his shoulder, as well as doing well in the hands of a young woman in the show ring, which also shows his temperment and rideability.

Kinda scratching my head and trying to type and think, not a good thing!! Chris will certainly be very honest with you in helping you to know more about Beau Soleil offspring, and suitability for your mare.

I have seen quite a few Beau Soleil babies and honestly I’ve always thought they were very nice looking. They seem to a nice type and all seem to jump well. I would say they are good but not extravagant movers. Have only seen, not worked with so can’t comment on temperament.
