D ring bit with fat mouthpiece?

TL;DR: I am looking for a D ring with a fat mouthpiece, a 3 piece. 18-20mm preferred. Any leads?

Currently, my horse is going in a Trust D ring mullen mouth (fully flexible rubber) with a 20mm mouthpiece.

She’s not bad in it. She started out heavier than sin, which is why she got put in the rubber bit to start with - I wanted her to learn to be soft and be able to make mistakes without being punished. She gets her “feelings” hurt easily.

I’d like to transition her to a more traditional bit, as this bit lacks some finesse I think she’s starting to be ready for - plus, the adjustment to metal and joints will take some time. I have no intention of riding forever in a rubber mullen mouth - it was intended as a baby starter bit and it has served its purpose. I still want the D ring though, as she can sometimes blow through a turn ignoring the outside rein, and having that pressure on the side of her face helps guide her back on track.

So, in short: I am looking for a D ring with a fat mouthpiece, a 3 piece. 18-20mm preferred.

I have this bit in a loose ring, which she will probably transition to eventually. I just want a D-ring for now while she’s still working out the whole “yes you have to turn every time even when it’s away from your pasture friends” portion of her life.

Any leads?

sprenger lozenge ? Mine’s pretty thick

Do you have a link? I’m only seeing 16mm.

I suppose an option is to get something, then wrap just the bars in sealtex.

Hm no but I can measure mine. It was on a clearance wall but I still think it was about $100

I got it at Bahr Saddlery www.bahrsaddlery.com

What about an Eggbutt ?

Was it this one?

Could be. The mouth piece seems really thick. Is 16mm thicker than average? I am sure they put it on my account so I could give them a call if you’d like?

I think 14-15-16mm are standard for loose rings and the like, but many D rings are thinner yet.

If you could that would be great! I don’t see the thickness of that bit listed on the page, though I’m sure I could email sprenger about it if the tack shop doesnt know.

Called- I purchased Sku 27998 which is the link you sent. They will answer your measurement question if you call. Very friendly

Awesome, thank you so much!

Aw crap, it doesn’t look like they ship to the US. I’ll look for the bit somewhere who does. I was going to order from them, though!

ah shoot. Well if you decide to buy it I can ship it to you. I want a snooty fox saddle pad they have for sale. This seems like a great excuse to go to the store and buy it LOL
