DAC oil?

Someone yesterday told me they love and swear by this product. Never heard of it. 98% fat. I like that it contains Omega 3 from fish oil and flax. Also like that it contains Vit E but not sure what kind it contains or how much. The label doesn’t state exact analysis in Omega 3 or Vit E per serving. Also don’t like that it contains soy oil. Would love to know exact analysis, of course.

Wondering what DAC oil users here have to say about it.

I’ve never used it myself but I know it’s quite popular with QH show people, has been for a long time.

It smells kind of fishy. My boarder’s mare that needed weight didn’t like it, and neither did my harder keeper. We ended up using it on the dumpster horse (will eat anything) just to use it up. CocoSoya is more palatable.

Here’s a link to analysis www.dacfeedstore.com/imagesupload/cm_files/oil_pdf

Hehehe. Dumpster horse. Good one! The kind that will happily scrounge and eat anything.

Thanks tazycat. I saw that “analysis” (non-analysis??) too. When a product promotes that it contains important ingredients like Omega 3, Vit E, it’s oddly suspicious that they don’t tell you how much is in it. It’s in there, but not in large enough amounts to be measured, or what?

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Is the price similar to Cocosoya? I am using that right now, but have been told that canola oil or vegtable oil is just as good at putting weight on.

Wouldn’t it be just as easy to feed ground flax? I’d never get mine to eat feed with oil added in it.

When I was researching oils recently, I was suprised that few products actually list their exact ingredients. However, I also found that many will provide more information if you email to ask! I inquired about the DAC oil omega ratios, and here is a direct quote from their emailed response:

"The dac Oil has a 2:1 ratio of Omega 6 to 3 fatty acids (primarily ALA but some DHA as we include fish oil)

The dac Oil has 100% Natural Vitamin E"

They did not provide the actual amounts of omegas, or the total vitamin E content.

In my search, I also found out that CocoSoya has a 7:1 Omega 6:3 ratio :eek:, and that Equine Omega Complete (which claims to provide an “optimum balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids” is “currently in the process of getting their extended general analysis,” which is the same answer they gave me a few years ago :confused:

If you are concerned about the omega ratios and want a cost effective option, Canola oil (2.5:1 Omega 6:3) seems like a good bet. Oils with superior Omega 3:6 ratios are generally flax or fish oil based, and can be significantly more expensive.

A moderate option is Animed’s FSO Blend, which is comparable in price to the CocoSoya and has an Omega 3:6 of about 1:0.75
