DAD! It's just around the corner ...

Oh, great. They have activated the link to the 2nd day results, but haven’t uploaded the PDF yet. It is supposed to be at http://www.horsesdaily.com/news/scoresource/2007/07dev/09-26.pdf .
Hopefully they will get it uploaded sometime today.

Edited to add that they have uploaded the 2nd day results - see above link. It seems that the scores for Maiden Mares are missing, though.

VERY nice!

The colt Bien Sir, who was Grand Champion was gorgeous, but I just loved the mare. She is a wonderful find for ISF. The Swedish stud was very attractive, and a lovely mover, of course, as well.

I went over to attend the Scott Hassler forum- it was terrific to hear his perspective which was first, and foremost, about the welfare of the horse. I loved his view on the importance of mares- as much as 70/30 over the studs in the resulting foals. Very informative, and well worth the time!

I will have to agree with Scott on the importance of mares. Great mares are the secret of a succesful breeding program!!

Well, my friend Leslie (known as Claudius on COTH)'s yearling colt, Jazz It Up, was second in the open colt class (out of 18) behind the colt that went on to be named Best Young Horse. He is by Corlando/Cor de la Breyer. The mare is a Secretariat line TB.

Leslie did not ask me to post this, nor does she know I am. But, I would like to say Kudos to her for a job well done!!!

The breeder of this lovely colt is a wonderful lady who I do not know, but from all accounts is well liked and respected in the horse community. She owns and stands the nice hunter stallion Magical along with pony stallions(?), and has been very ill with cancer this past year.

Evidently the news that Jazz It Up did so well at Devon has made her month.

Another case of “The outside of a horse being good for the inside of a man.”

Darnit!

That would have to be Carol Lush- who used to stand a TB stud, eons ago, named On The Road- nice hunter stud…I am terribly srryto hear she has been ill. She is a VERY nice lady!

From what I heard, they have been taping. However it’s not going to be a webcast which is too bad but rather available on their site in early October. If the HJ world can figure it out, why not dressage.

So… anybody have updates for us? I hope everybody is doing well & having fun![/QUOTE]

Mary, not trying to start something but you asked on the breeding forum about everybody here on the breeding forum and how they are doing. I am just saying how everyone that showed at Devon, I am sure, would love to share how they are doing but many are afraid to do so for fear of being banned. By asking the question you did makes it hard on all who want to share their news here. I saw many Cothers and many did very, very well. It was a joy to see everyone!!! It is also a joy to see how well fellow cother’s breeding programs have progressed!!! Great day today for American breeders. Many of us breeders have struggled for many years and many generations to produce the offspring that was shown today. And it didn’t even rain!!! What a day for all.

Anyone know who the photographers were on Tuesday?

In all the excitement, I left without getting information about the photographers. If anyone knows, please share! Thanks –

vidal photography

Hi,

At least one was www.vidalphotography.com, I’m told that phelps was there too, but they have not yet responded to my email (probably still at devon?)…

confused

So, to be clear…it’s not ok to say how you did specifically (using your horses’ name or breed etc…)…or what you thought of your horse or the experience? That’s a shame…to the breeders, and to the owners. Isn’t this forum here so we can share? Well, I am very happy with my first visit and show experience at DAD and I hope others are as well. I’ll add the drive home was rough…yucky weather!!

Unfortunately, yes you are not allowed to name a specific horse or how it did, or what it’s breeding is. For an example of what isn’t allowed, see this thread http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=115984

I agree though, what a shame that a few BAD breeders on COTH (ones that went over the line in the bragging dept) mess it up for those who work hard and just want to share the few successes they have had. Also, it sure would be nice to know the breeding that is out there doing well. It would help breeders in planning future crops for marketing and competeing.

too bad

Thanks…Got it!!

How many of the barns were renovated… did they make a lot of progress? I was in one of the renovated barns the first year we went and it was very nice!

I was extremely lucky to get in a new barn and wow, I was so impressed. No hammer and nails needed this year. What a wonderful barn. Very nice…boy do I hope for that again next year.

Lori was great as ever, I always was afraid I’d bother her with my silly questions, but as usual she is calm as ever with such hub bub going on, boy I wouldn’t be. I really don’t know how you do it Lori. If ever you want my help with anything, please just say the word. It must get so crazy taking care of so much.

And, did I mention, no rain!!! Of course it didn’t rain because this year I came prepared with rain slickers, lol.

I don’t know how Lori does it either, but the show is very well run. She and Melanie are wonderful and the volunteers are the best. The renovations were heavenly and the facility is always clean. Thanks Devon staff! My only complaint was the heat. I wither in it and as a result spent a lot of time in front of a fan. I’m looking forward to next year. Peg

Lori, Melanie, & the crew run a top notch show! I know it takes TONS of hard work, dedication, and volunteers to pull off a show like that! I missed not going this year…

Great Staff

I’ll add to the kudos for the office staff at DAD…they were very friendly and easy going. I knowing little about DSHB has a few “dumb” questions and they were very friendly about answering them. I felt very welcomed!

Yes Kudos and much appreciation for the staff, and the new stabling is AWESOME!!!

Yes, I was in a renovated this year too … and I was very sorry to see some IDIOT had pounded heavy duty staples into the wall … in order to show off their ribbons. I had to call maintenance to come and remove them. Oh and then SOMEONE … (not you edgewood) decided to pound nails into the door to display their farm logo. sigh

Is it just me … I’m constantly amazed how self centered and inconsiderate people can be. These are brand-new stalls!!! They wouldn’t do this at home,… or would they.:confused::confused::confused:

P.S. Yes, yes yes. Kudos to Lori and Mel et al!!! They were pleasant and helpful…and I’m sure they were exhausted and just wanted a large drink and to put their feet up. Thank you sooooo much girls, for your really HARD work.
