Readers Outraged at Drag Hunters
A tragic story, but I’m a bit surprized at the vehemence of the reader comments.

You are? I’m not. England is now awash with class warfare, socialism, and the politics of envy.
I feel truly sorry for the few real freedom-loving Brits left. They should just emigrate here.

Dog save us from yogurt knitters. Envy, politics, and all the rest are a worldwide phenomenon.

True, but the resistance to them is stronger is some places than others.
As much noise as the OWS idjits create, most people in this country are not joining them. Compare that with the London student riots this year because mommy government decided to pay less of their uni costs.
This is not the place for ill advised political rants. I would suggest that you acquire a deeper education before making a fool of yourself on a public BB.
“Yogurt knitter” – I had to resort to the Urban Dictionary for that one, LOL.

I’m sure the political climate with regards to field sports, firearms, and many other aspects of country life is no better here than in Blighty.
Uh huh.
Back to the regularly scheduled programming, here’s what I see:
General public completely ignorant of how hounds behave, projecting on them the behavior of domestic lap dogs.
A completely screwed up reaction by the hunt to this incident.
Probably some slightly biased reporting.
The behavior of the hunt members seems to be worse than their hounds. Really, returning the cat to the owners in an empty food bag? How cruel and apathetic can you get?

What did the hounds do wrong?
They did what millions of dogs (domesticated or otherwise) the world over do: chase and kill cats.
As for your other statement, I agree completely. They could have shown a lot more class and compassion.
You have to ask yourself how many cats a week in the UK are killed by dogs, and why their deaths are not exploited by the tabloid press and “petlovers”. Even hunting bulletin boards have fallen prey to their manipulation.
You’re right, the hounds did what they’re bred to do. My statement was more in reaction to some of the comments posted about the story on the DM site.

My “slightly biased reporting” comment was sarcastic understatement.
Well duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh !
I would say that the while the hounds are bred to hunt, these hounds are not properly trained. Good, well trained hounds run the quarry they are trained to hunt and ignore all others.
What a disaster! So I’m conflicted here because I love hunting and I love cats. But if that was my cat, I would be most angry at myself, for leaving an unattended, deaf 18 year old cat outside. My cat never goes outside. We have coyotes. In England they have foxes, and I think stoats can kill cats as well, they can take down rabbits easily.
This was tragic for all sides, I think the hunt did a poor job, to say the least. It was unfortunate, but at least quick for the old cat. But it was another terrible blow to the hunting community at large. Hounds should not pursue cats, but they can and occasionally do–they’re still dogs. My dog was a cat chaser and I believe he would have killed a cat had he caught one. He knows MY cat is off limits and they’re buddies, but I think he would go after a strange cat. The barncats around hunt kennels I have seen were all fast and careful when hounds were out. And they would also parade past the kennels when the mood struck.
So we have a sad, but wholly natural occurrence being tried in the court of the citiots who already loathe the notion of hunting in any form but especially foxhunters–bloody murderous blueblooded toffs, all of us. This is gonna leave a mark…

Brilliant description
What a shame that the hunt didn’t handle this situation with more tact.

Especially when the hunt regularly use a bridle path that has right of way through your property.
Fake…
No way that cat is “the” one they got and I’d likely believe he died natural causes but the owners blamed the hunt. They shoulda felt guilty for prolonging the life of that poor cat and for letting him out! Whole article reaks of “anti’s” propaganda…picture of dead cat, overwrought elderly owners, bla, bla, bla…I don’t let my pets loose when the hunts about and they had to have known. Hunts let folks know when they are in the neighborhood.
Ridiculous & histrionic. Don’t buy it! .
