Dammit, Konig! (sorry, another boot thread)

Anyone else have quality issues with their Konigs? I bought my Grandgesters a little over a year ago. First, there were visible rubs/peeling on the foot, near where the stirrup goes. My stirrups are the correct size for my foot and I don’t do anything strange with them. I have standard dressage foot position. Then the zippers blew- probably about a month into owning them. Now I notice that the stitching has gone on my left heel, just above where my spur rests. This is not a high strain area as far as I can tell. What gives with these boots??? I sold my soul to afford them. I had Petries for over 10 years that cost $399 that never had even one of these issues. They’re too big and too short now but no stitching has gone and there are no rubs on the leather. (I had the zippers put in myself since they were pull ons when I bought them but they never had a problem, either.)

I am beyond dismayed. I will be talking to the store I bought them from and their customer service is great so I know they’d send them back to Konig but I need a reliable boot! Honestly, after all these problems I might forget Konig and just take them the cobbler myself.

Is bad Konig quality a thing? Have they rested on their laurels too much?

Odd! I have the lesser model down the Favorite as they were a steal of a deal so figured I couldn’t lose and ordered them. Had them for about the same time as you and they are holding up well from regular riding none of the issues you have mentioned with yours. I’d for sure make sure Konig knows about it and hopefully they rectify your issues!

Do the higher end models use very soft calfskin like the French jump saddles that wear out in a year?

No. Konig dressage boots are basically made of tubular steel. Sounds like the stitching is not up to par, though. I myself just got a pair of Alberto fasciani, I will report back on how that goes.

I agree with the others. I have a couple pairs of konigs, and they have worn incredibly well. I would definitely contact either the store that sold them or Konigs directly. Hope they make it right!

I went to Petrie after the entire sole pulled off the welting when I was taking a pair of Konigs off. You can’t even repair that ! The Petries seem to go for ever, so goodbye Konig.

Raff- what model boot did you end up with?

And yes, I bought them at Dover and they will make things right. But they did also agree that boots of this $$$$ shouldn’t be having all these sorts of problems so early in their lifespan!

Mine were Grandjester, and I think they had a welted (sewn on) sole, not the best choice for someone who wears them all day and rides several horses and gets them damp on the wash bay, because the stitching rots. I didn’t know that when I bought them. Im better with a synthetic sole like the Petries. They were beautiful, but probably best for competition only? For that price, and with longevity being part of the sales pitch I was surprised at how fragile they were :?

Just like mine, though I am very careful about where I wear them and take them off soon after I ride. Grr. What Petries did you end up with?

I have patent Elegance which I got for a couple of hundred on ebay because they had a bit of damage on the inside of the foot (which you can’t see when riding) I have actually hosed these off if they got mud on them and they’re wearing like iron. Also a pair of plain leather Petries for competitions which were a return at a saddlery I used to work at. Also tough. It’s quite a skill to measure boots and these were too tall for the lady who self measured and ordered them (but perfect for me!)
