Dancier, Quaterhall & Floriscount

I have all these boys in the tank. Just thinking about next year possibly doing an ET breeding with either my RotsponXDavignon or BuddenbrockXDavignon mare. Probably leaning towards the Rotspon mare as she will be 14 next year so getting older. Wondering for those having used the above stallions:

  1. length of leg they passed on
  2. movement? dressage type? flatter? jump in canter?
  3. topline
  4. body type? heavier? lighter? size?
  5. limb fundamentals?

Floriscount seems to add height and length of leg. He really seems to add to the jump in the canter as well as knee and hock action in trot (but not too much). The legs seem correct as well. I really can’t find many faults!

I bought a Floriscount x Rascalino x Fisherman’s Friend filly - see here https://youtu.be/_Z388MFQGl8

And she has 2 full sisters Floriscount x Rascalino that are both States Premium and the mare family was Champion of their mare show. I believe the breeder has the Rascalino mare back in foal to Floriscount because it is such a nice cross.

Quaterhall is making really nice offspring - he had quite a few mares get their 1a prize . . however I haven’t seen many under saddle yet and I wonder how the rideability will be - he seems very rideable but you could get Quaterback rideability issues. They also seem quite leggy but very refined, maybe too dainty for my taste. That being said, some looked quite stunning.

I don’t have any firsthand experience with Danicer but I love De Niro.

Hope that helps!

I just received a text today from a well known trainer friend that said a 3 year old Quarterhall that he imported as a hunter is leading the trail rides his ammy owner takes him on! Very good brain!

Wow… I have nothing to add re: OP but loving that filly you purchased… wow.

We’ve had two Floriscount foals born at our farm this year and both have turned out very nicely.
This is the youngest he was born 6th of June and this was his first outing he is bred and owned by Mary Lou Winn he’s out of her SPS by Prince Thatch xx-Argentan who had a Quaterback, a Don Schufro and an Escolar before all of which have very good movement in common and the eldest got approved in Finland last year.

This is the elder he was born April 10 his dam is our SPS by Don Bosco-Archipel-Perser xx

This is one that was born on our farm a few years ago out of our Warkant-Hohenstein-Perser xx mare who is owned by Jan Graham-Marquardt. I’m told she went on to make EM in TX.
Overall I can say we’ve been very lucky with the Floriscount foals we’ve had on our farm

Quaterhall I only know from offspring I came across or worked on in practice. Not enough to comment on. But I’ve sat on quite a few Danciers by now and we also had a filly by him a few years back (out of the same mare that had the Floriscount)

Same filly at 3 weeks old:

A friend had another Dancier out of her Wolkenstein II-Lemon Park mare. From all the one’s I’ve seen so far I’d say you want to watch size as they tend to be on the smaller side and the other think you want to pay close attention to is to chose a mare that has a solid walk as they can come short-strided. No pacers though that I’ve seen just lacking length of stride. Rideability was overall superb!
I’ve also heard a lot of people mention that Floriscount threw them hot I can say ours have been perfectly calm angels so far.

Good luck

Thank you! Kareen, your Floriscount-Don Bosco is lovely! After seeing that I am leaning towards Floriscount. Then watched the video of your Dancier-Don Bosco and that one was lovely too…so obviously the mare has had a lot of influence.

I have seen quite a few nice Dancier-Rotspon crosses, but searching online have seen a few nice Floriscount-Rotspon crosses too. The mare in question is quite different than her dam (DAvignon-Matcho). My Rotspon mare is heavier build, shorter legged and not too feminine. I love her size though…16.2h and takes up your leg well. She appears taller than she is. Her dam was just the opposite; lighter type, longer legged, very feminine. My Rotspon mare has produced one offspring by Sinatra Song that is very much like her but maybe a little longer legged. My mare is quite rideable, although opinionated at times. Three very good gaits. I need to lengthen her leg, lighten/ modernize her type, improve conformation of her hindleg (she is a little straight) and a quicker hindleg (she can be motivated to quicken her hindleg, but would rather be a bit lazy). Overall though I love her and if I replicate her that would be fine too:-) But no one is perfect and those are the things I would like to see improved. What I do not want to detract from is her size, her topline, her neck/shoulder/saddle position, her walk & canter, her feet, her temperament (I can take her trail riding anywhere, swimming, she doesn’t buck/spin/rear…even during her opinionated temper tantrums…she just gets stubborn/resistant, but is safe).

From what you describe I think Dancier would be your best and he seems to go well with the Rotspon mares. We have tried a good number of Danciers when horse shopping and have loved every one of them…always super nice to ride! If I had the right mare for him I would use him in a heart beat.

That being said I love, love Floriscount and just had a special filly from him out of my Han. Pr. C. Londonderry x Rosentau mare. Mare had highest mare test in Canada for Hanoverian mares ( 8.5 dressage, 8.14 overall), won her mare show etc but this filly just has something extra. He added height and even longer legs, and an even better neck. Gaits already look better than her momma’s (especially canter).

Floriscount seems to work on a wide variety of mares but I do think you need a mare with a good, quick hind leg.

No experience with Quaterhall.

Lovely foal Donella! I am so torn between Dancier and Floriscount. I go back and forth, each day changing my mind. We’ll see how I feel next March:)

Foto has grown up to be quite gorgeous and a great mother! She had a Fabriano colt this spring- so handsome!
