Daniel Coyle

I hadn’t heard of Daniel Coyle before winter circuit this year but wow is he having a good start! Three (?) wins at WEF and a win in the welcome at the masters today. Does anyone know his background?

Also looks like he’s taken over the ride on some of Conor Swail’s horses, the one’s owned by the Grange’s (Grafton, Simba de la Roque, Cita). I know he’s young enough to ride them in the U25 classes so I don’t know if that had something to do with it or wondering what I missed

He’s Irish. He hit me in the head with a dart. Other than that he’s lovely, as a person and as a rider.

Connor brought Daniel on to help with riding young horses and he did a great job, then when Connor left to start his own business they kept Daniel on and gave him Connor’s horses. I think that’s the totality of the story, don’t think it was very dramatic I’m sure everyone’s still friends.

I do wish they could maybe give one of them to a Canadian rider like Erynn Ballard or even Brian Morton but oh well, Daniel’s been doing a great job with a great start to WEF

@lady79–it sounds like you have a good story to tell! A dart of love or a literal dart?

He is truly a pleasure to watch as a rider.

Saw him ride at Harrisburg. Impressive!

After he won at the Pennsylvania National, we had a nice in-depth article in the print magazine of The Chronicle of the Horse about Daniel’s progression from assistant to top rider at the Grange’s. (Hint, hint, subscribing has its perks!)

A literal dart  in the bar in Portugal last year because he and my friend played darts like every night during the Atlantic tour. I honestly wasn’t that close to the dart board and I may have told him I would have him killed by my former Irish boss. He took it with good humour. But then so did I…because dude you hit me in the head with a dart.

But I did watch him ride every day for several weeks and he really is a talent with so so so many years ahead of him.
