Hi Board! I was wondering…seeing as Darco is nearly impossible to breed to anymore, what would you guys recommend for one of his highly successful sons with a solid dam line, show record and successful offspring? Non Stop, Winningmood? Any others?
I have my mare in foal to Valentino Z (Darco son). I am so excited about this foal!! Ronda from Rising Star Farm was very easy to work with, and my mare got in foal on the first try with fresh cooled. Good Luck and happy baby making
I would second Valentino. He is a lovely stallion and Ronda is excellent to work with. Highly recommend both.
I’ve got two of my mares in foal to Spy Coast’s Amaretto D’Arco. His stud fee is pricey, but he was the reserve for the Irish Olympic Team this past year and finished 2012 ranked 113th in the world.
The thing that impressed me about Amaretto D’Arco is that he really allowed the mare to come through in the type department, but he put that Darco canter and jump on all of them. Personally, I would not put him to a larger, heavier mare or a mare who suffers in the type department.
His semen, both fresh and frozen, is super good.
This fellow is here in PA with me…

Many wins at 1.5m and also a winner at 1.6m… all in Europe.
Quentin at Double H is currently riding a 7/8 year old son of his.
No website, but you can pm me for more…
When did you get that one Nick? Congratulations

Height? Offspring are doing??? Scores?
More on his dam? Cash isn’t my favorite line but it depends what the dam has done.
What about Parco?

Judy Yancey has some info about Parco and offspring on her website.
http://yancey-farms.com/horse.htm .
Nonstop’s 2012 jumping sire ranking was WBFSH #27 down from #23. Parco has a lovely winning son here in the US, C.Quito (quinto, sp?). Douglas VDL, Amaretto D’arco, Winningmood are all rising stars. Ublesco might be in the BWP stallion service auction this year and he was alternate for London or Hong Kong Olympics (also double check Amaretto D’arco might be offered in BWP-NA SSA)
I wouldn’t call any of them expensive compared to the fees I just saw this last month in COTH for unlicensed stallions.
You might also consider some of the approved successful stallions with Darco as a damsire: Magic Darco (bwp SSA?), Orlando, Querlybet Hero, Temple Akropolis (by voltaire from Olympic Sapphire).
I love Darco and was really disappointed by the inaccurate description in practical horseman this last month which failed to note that Darco is the only jumping sire ranked #1 in the world (Wbfsh) 4 years in a row. In fact, the article stated that he was ranked EIGHTH in the world not #1 (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011). Currently ranked #3 (2012). gggrrrrr
Silver Creek bred a stallion by Parco who won the RPSI 30 day stallion test in 2010 named Parlay S. You can find pictures at http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.163402753702080.29301.163360860372936&type=1&comment_id=1875318&offset=0&total_comments=3
I have a 2011 gelding sired by Parlay S who I can’t say enough positive things about this gelding. The gelding has a wonderful temperament, three great gaits, and I can’t wait till he gets older as it looks like he should have lots of power when it comes time for him to start his career as a jumper. Here is a video of him http://m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=%2F#/watch?v=vFwpJLdXjk4
Needless to say I am a little biased in my suggestion to use Parco…
We had 3 Parco’s and LOVED them.

There is also C-Quito - http://www.c-quito.com
And Douglas - http://www.ranchodeloro.com/Douglas_page.html
We have a Douglas foal coming from a Casall / Quinar mare … so very excited about this one and seriously hoping for a filly!!!
If you’ve got a board certified thereogenologist handy, BWP-NA stallion service auction is auctioning a Darco breeding via ICSI or at least that’s what I was told by the registrar. All the stallions haven’t been listed yet, but here’s the link:
http://bwp.selectwv.com/auction/
I forgot to mention Wonderboy who’s the foundation sire for jumping programs in 4 countries. He’s a Darco son out of a very impressive mare. Wonderboy is full brother to stallion Shannondale Sarco who is very popular in Ireland.
Ublesco by Darco is also in this auction and was the alternate for the US team for the Hong Kong Olympics if I’ve got my games right.
I have a 2011 Valentino Z that is a big statuesque filly out of one of my homebred TB mares. Then I have a 2012 Valentino Z out of another similar mare, I have my 3rd Valentino Z due in April. That mare is a full sister to the dam of the 2011 filly. I also have booked another of my homebred mares to him for 2013. I think he has some great jumping lines (Darco) to cross with Thoroughbreds.

We stand Akropolis at stud in the UK. As you mention, Akropolis is the only son of Sapphire (double gold Olympic medalist with McLain Ward) sired by Voltaire. Sapphire is by Darco and Akropolis is just fabulous! Feel free to PM me if anyone would like details.
wow, just watched a son of Winningmood at the BWP stallion approvals, Belgium, a very stylish grey Game Boy D’10…if you can get Winningmood service, I’d go for that in a heartbeat (except winningmood is brother to my mares, alas)
mareslave, you just can’t post “winningmood is brother to my mares” and NOT show pics! I’ve contacted the owners twice with regard to breeding to Winningmood (once no reply, 2nd time “closed book”), I’m about to give up…but, I sure would like to see your mares! Thank you.
