Anyone used one of thse? I saw them in a magazine and wondered how effective they were. I hate the miracle collar, I jsut can’t get used to how tight it has to be in order to be effective. :o
Did not work at all for my cribber.
Not even a little bit.
Worked great for my cribber but in combination with other things - 24/7 turnout, plenty to eat since he was starving when we got him, ulcer meds, electric fence, a quiet companion. The Miracle Collar had to be pulled so tight he would bloody himself.
Miracle collars give them headaches.
A friend of mine uses one on her little barrel horse, and loves it. Curbs the cribbing, and apparently the mare is much more comfortable than with the Miracle Collar.
Glad this topic came up. I have been using a french style cribbing strap while my mare is indoors, but have been afraid to turn her out with it on, despite 24/7 turnout w/ shed & companions on 10 acres, she will deliberately hang out in the shed alone and crib incessantly. Been considering purchasing a dare collar… the french style one is cheap and curbs the habit, but it doesn’t stay in place so well and needs to be tightened, her attempts at flexing her next stretch it out.
Not familiar with this one, but the most effective collar I’ve used is just a plain wide leather strap. No rubs and stopped the cribbing with a looser adjustment than the others.

The Dare collar is basically a thick harness leather strap with a tapered block that tightens when the horse pulls back. You can leave it looser and it only tightens when they pull. When my TWH grazed it was completely loose.
We also eliminated any spots that he could crib on - we covered wood edges, never left the dutch door open, strung a hot wire above gates. We also had to make sure that hay was available before he finished eating or he would look for something to crib on.

Hands down my favorite cribbing collar. I have a mare that both cribs and windsucks. She would crib on anything, including concrete. She doesn’t do either with this cribbing collar on. I tried the Miracle Collar on her before this and she still incessantly cribbed.
I love the dare cribbing collar and it has worked better for my boy that the miracle collar that I needed to keep really tight!
The collar I love and swear by is the Weaver “cribbing collar”. It is a wide - 3" plain leather strap/buckle …no other hardware…and I have never had a horse crib with it on!! I bought a horse some years ago who was such a devout cribber…he would crib on the bit as it was placed in his mouth!!! Yuck!! I bought the Weaver collar and he has completely stopped even thinking about cribbing!! That combined with a lot of turn-out and forage available!! I have a VERY dedicated cribber who doesn’t even attempt it with the Dare collar on. I hated the miracle collar, had to be too tight to stay in place and didn’t work all that great. This collar can be kept fairly loose and doesn’t rub him raw like the miracle collar. I’ve had it for a few years now and have zero complaints.
