Daredevil, sire of Swiss Skydiver and Shedaresthedevil will be coming back to the U.S. and standing at Lane’s End in 2021.

In the past 5 years, we’ve repatriated Empire Maker, Take Charge Indy, and now Daredevil. Am I missing anyone else? (Excluding horses like I’ll Have Another, whose return wasn’t because of success)

Maybe it’s time for Kentucky to stop kicking stallions out of the country prematurely?

Imagine that.

I wonder what the return on investment is in these situations. I have no idea what they have to spend to get these guys back. I imagine they pay handsomely.

@LaurieB would he be on your short list for any of your ladies for 2021?

Seems like a fairly reasonable fee given his two sparkling fillies of this year with both Shedaresthedevil and Swiss Skydiver as well as his stats.

Look who sent him offshore (WinStar sold him to The Turkish Jockey Club)… surprise, surprise. Glad he’s coming back to a different farm but will remain the property of the Jockey Club of Turkey.

Most farms use a financial plan that enables them to be “out” on the cost of the stallion by the end of the third year. After that, it’s mostly gravy. But given the choice of spreading profits out over the next decade (and assuming the risk of doing so), or grabbing the sure-thing lump sum right away, farms are opting for the latter. Especially now with Japan, Turkey, Korea, and the Philippines all having stepped up their buying of U.S. stock.

My shortlist is very short.

We’re breeding to Frosted and Goldencents.

Scott Hazelton of TVG just interviewed Bill Farrish of Lane’s End.

But nice choices!!

Would you consider Daredevil or is his pedigree not as complimentary to your girls?

It’s a moot point now. Our mares are booked and the contracts are signed.

There’s always 2022

Don’t you still have that breeding to Astern?

no

also worthy of note that the political climate in Turkey right now is not good. I am sure Lanes End paid handsomely to have him return and stand here; however Turley retains ownership. This may not just be a sweet business deal allowing American’s another shot. This may be an insurance for the Turkish owners to ensure their horse remains on protected property if things were to go south with unrest in Turkey. I have been praying for all of the noteworthy exports that currently reside there.

So happy to see him returning and look forward to seeing what else he sires in the coming years.
