I haven’t been to a show since the new dress rules went into effect in December. Has anyone seen dark breeches at a show? How did they look? What color coats did people wear with them?
I’ve seen 2 riders with non-white breeches. Both on light grey/white horses. One wore burgundy breeches with a matching saddle pad and a black jacket. 4th level. Other rider wore dark grey beeches with a black shadbelly and a black jacket. IMO, they looked great. The remaining 99% of us wore white breeches.
For what it’s worth, most of the country is still in winter and show season hasn’t started yet, so you’ll probably get more answers in a few months
The only one I’ve seen so far is Elena Flaharty in all black in a grey horse and she looked fabulous. Spent the afternoon at Global today and didn’t see anything but white breeches. Some very cool colour jackets though - grey, olive, maroon, dark emerald…and a couple with matching boots.
I saw a few pictures of black breeches with a black coat. I thought it looked great! It seems weird at first but if you think like business suits it’s normal to see black pants and a black jacket. I, for one, will be doing black breeches. Anything to make my thighs less visible against the saddle lol.
Covid made me miss my show this weekend (ugh - I’m fine just disappointed) but my non-white breeches outfits debut next month. I have burgundy pants with a black coat (on my palomino) and charcoal pants with a rose coat (on my black horse). I seriously hate the high maintenance of white pants.
Charcoal and rose sounds gorgeous together Please share pictures once you’ve shown!
Tell me about the burgundy pants please… I’m struggling to find what I want.
I just got a gorgeous pair from Halter Ego.https://shophalterego.com/collections/full-seat-breeches/products/megan-full-seat-breeches-burgundy
In terms of pure comfort, their Kimberly breeches are amazing, but they only have a few sizes left in Burgundy and the fabric is a bit heavy for hot days. https://shophalterego.com/collections/full-seat-breeches/products/kimberly-full-seat-silicone-breeches
At a show about a month ago here in Arizona, I was mostly still seeing white/light breeches. Will be interesting to see if that changes once other areas start showing!
Last weekend, I wore black shadbelly, breeches, and gloves with brown/gold hat, boots and saddlepad. This weekend was black shad, hat, gloves boots and Mattes pad with burgundy pants, saddlepad (black trim), white stock tie with burgundy trim. I have been wanting out of white breeches for a long, long time! I don’t plan to wear them again until a CDI. I haven’t seen anyone else in Wellington wearing anything other than white or cream. It takes time for new ideas to catch on…
Did you post a pic on IG of the black / gold combo? I remember seeing that somewhere within the last week or two and thinking it looked so sharp, especially the helmet with the boots
I think that guide makes it more confusing in a way. Some of the stuff that they say is too much pattern for a coat looks like it has no more pattern than the one above it that says it is fine.
I think in that case that is the distinction between a tweed, and an overplaid, one of which is acceptable and one of which isn’t. They probably should have left tweeds out of the rules because tweeds and plaids can be very similar.
I think it’s great, and clears up most questions. Thanks for posting it, @pluvinel.
If you’re unsure whether something is “too much,” all you have to do is err on the side of caution.
