Are there any KWPN breeders in the US with the Daula mare line? I recently lost my 25yo gelding…he was out of the well know Daula mare line (his dam was Esdaula and he was by Voltaire). He was a once in a lifetime horse…and I never knew how well known his dam line was until he was older. I’ve had several other foals/young horses by Voltaire…but I think what made my guy so special was the mare line.
I am thinking about trying to find another young horse out of that same dam line (obviously I will never replace him, but he was a perfect match, so maybe similar lines will be a start). I’ve looked at some of the pedigree sites, and there does seem to be a few offspring out of that mare line…even found a foal at one of the sales in Holland listed last year that was a Daula mare line.
Just curious if anyone is familiar with the line…or how to locate some young horses with similar breeding. Thanks:)
I am sorry for your loss. My own senior also went to greener pastures earlier this year.
Get in touch with Scot Tolman at Shooting Star Farm in New Hampshire. He has a personal FB page and also one for the farm, I believe. He breeds KWPN and has done very well with his family’s breeding program.
He had and bred several mares from the Daula line. Here is the mare reference page from his farm website:
Have a look, it is a great source of info on the Daula line of broodmares. And then send Scot a message. At one point several years ago he downsized his breeding program, and I believe Oladaula and Pioendaula were sold. They each had several foals. Oladaula has, in her pedigree, a “double dose” of the Daula line, as her sire was Hierarch.
Oladaula had foals by Zeoliet (a filly in 2000, and a colt in 2002); a 2004 filly by Farrington; a 2006 colt by Donatelli; and a 2007 filly by Freestyle, that I know of.
Pioendaula had a 2001 colt by Cabachon, a 2002 filly by Jazz, and a 2003 filly by Rafurstinels (?), I think.
I believe both those mares maybe went to Dreamscape Farm, Jennifer and Armin Arnoldt in Langley, B.C. I don’t know of any more recent offspring, or it the two mares now have grand-foals.
Scot stood Zeoliet until his passing. I got in touch with Scot for advice on stallions I should consider breeding my Zeoliet x Maykel mare to, back in 2005. I ended up breeding her to his other stallion, Donatelli. I got a fabulous filly from that breeding. Donatelli also went to Dreamscape Farm when he left Scot’s at the time of downsizing. I believe Scot has again expanded his breeding program, and I love following his breeding choices and successes each year.
And even though I eventually sold my filly, when her current owner asked me who she should breed that Donatelli x Zeoliet mare to, I again contacted Scot for his opinion.
He is a wealth of information and is dedicated to breeding the best Dutch dressage/sport horses. He is very easy to reach by email.
There is a more recent (2000) mare in the Daula line, Tudaula. Sire is Krack C. Her dam is Luky Daula (note spelling), and grand dam on that side is Udaula.
Tudaula has some recent offspring:
2013 filly by UB40
2014 colt by UB40
2015 filly by Special D
2016 filly by Freestyle. (Freestyle also stood at Dreamscape Farm; he passed away in 2016. But Jennifer and Armin may have info on this one.)
Thanks keysfins! I will find some time to send Scot an email and see if he has any info on the mares’ offspring that he had in his program. So sorry that you also lost your senior as well…so hard to say goodbye to the special ones.
I absolutely love the Daula line, I have a coming 6 year old (by Uphill) out of Zola Daula (out of Oladaula, by Farrington). KC Dunn of Timbach farm has foals out of her mare Zola Daula I believe yearly (this mare was breed by SSF). She is in Indiana. I know there were quite a few young mares from the Daula line at the keurings this year and possibly a few other breeders in New England beyond SSF. Feel free to message me if you want any other information.
She’s lovely! Your description sounds just like my guy…he was a very late bloomer. Very gawky looking as a 4 yo and didn’t really come into his own until about 7 or 8. I got him cheap because no one thought he was very special and he got hurt as a jumper. Turns out dressage was his thing…ended up schooling all the GP movements, would have shown GP except for a hind suspensory injury:) He had the best personality…just loved attention and was always a happy horse. Super smart and always gave 110%…especially when the pressure was on. He was a bit hot - the kind of horse you spent most of the ride half-halting…but never hot in a bad way. And super light in the bridle.
Thanks for the info about Timbach…I sent them a message on FB to see if they have any youngsters. Their website is under construction, so hard to tell.
I responded to your Facebook inquiry and sent you a photo of the registration for the yearling that we have for sale out of Zola Daula SSF. Lexington is by Don Tango B (Jazz x Contango). Our Daula mares are great moms and they have produced some very nice foals for us. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your boy.
