Dausequin alternative -- lubrisyn or other dog supplements?

I have a soon to be 9 year old labradoodle that is very active. I’ve noticed that he is starting to slow down and I’d like to try a joint supplement. I have not been a huge believer in joint supplements with horses having always preferred adequan or joint injections when needed.

I purchased Dausequin and his skin turned bright red and itchy after only a day of taking it. I’ve read online that dogs with a shellfish allergy may not be able to take glucosamine. We did not know he had an allergy, but there is clearly something in it that did not agree with him.

I am considering trying lubrisyn, since it is a hyaluronic acid product instead of a glucosamine product. Any dog joint supplements that you have found effective? Has anyone tried lubrisyn?

He is not lame or limping, so I don’t think a vet visit is warranted especially for this. I will certainly discuss with my vet at his next appointment, but I thought I may be able to help him a bit in the meantime.

Actiflex K9- cheap, and makes a huge difference. My little 14 year old with a herniated disc can;t walk if she misses a couple doses.

We use the horse version with noticeable results as well.

My dog did great on Dausequin. We are now transitioning to adequan as the Dausequin is no longer enough. He was on it for about 5 years and he has had ACL repairs on both his back legs when he was younger.

I’ve used Lubrisyn for my old dog, my horses and me- for years. My dog would be noticeably more comfortable within
20-30 min of getting her dose. She’d act like a spry, young pooch when on it.

I used Cosequin with MSM for two of my dogs. Saw a small change in one, but the difference in my other girl was dramatic! She had definitely slowed down, was slow to get up, etc. The Cosequin took all of that away. It seemed like her energy level improved but I’m sure she was just more comfortable.
