interesting information - thanks
I keep getting an error message.
Me too…
I just think the site is down for awhile. It was yesterday and then I tried later and it worked.
Interesting read thank you for posting the link. I do disagree that all decisions are made in the best interest of the horse…You just have to look at how the jumpers have had to quality for past teams, that is after they were sued by a rider… Talk about nearly if not breaking a horse… This should be a very interesting Olympics…GO USA…
This Olympics is bringing up a lot of interesting discussions. Thanks for posting that, it was an interesting read. This is definitely going to be an interesting Olympics…
What a good example of someone who is good at PR addressing concerns in a timely manner. Thank you David O’Connor
Definitely an interesting article. I’ve also come into the information recently that shipping from LA to Hong Kong wasn’t really an option because of the length of the flight as well as the quarantine procedure itsself (esp. for mares and stallions). Apparently, all North American and European horses (plus others?) are rendezvousing in Aachen for group quarantine and will all travel to HK together as per arrangements of China, who is paying for it all as the host country.
Thanks for posting the link!
Who is on The USEF High Performance Dressage Active Athletes Committee ?
I had the same question.
I think the list you are asking for is here
http://www.usef.org/documents/highPerformance/dressage/OGAttachmentH.pdf
Why would you have active athletes making decisions that concern those who are competing against them for a place on the team?

LOL I was thinking the same thing…I don’t think it takes an active rider to make these types of decisions…

It’s the law (Ted Stevens Amateur Athletics Act) and the reasoning is to make sure that people who actually have to negotiate the criteria have input into the decisionmaking process, ie, to deal with concerns exactly like Ms. Haddad’s about travel logistics and the like.
These are a few of the things that make me go…
hmmmmm.
The older I get, the more I realize that there is more to the game than just good training and then doing your best once entering at A.

gee…you think?
The law is an ass!
Seems like an excellent opportunity to have a competitor excluded.

gee…you think?
Haddad certainly tried
…members of the High Performance Committee also considered all of these factors and in May 2007 made many of the details of these procedures and pre-Games logistics known to the athletes who would be impacted by their decisions…In June 2007 USEF received a letter from Ms. Haddad expressing her concerns…During the month of July both the Active Athletes and High Performance committees were reconvened to discuss Ms. Haddad’s concerns…When Ms. Haddad sent a letter to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) on August 30…USEF held a joint meeting of the Active Athletes and High Performance committees on September 4… unanimously rejected Ms. Haddad’s recommendations as not in the best interest of potential team performance…The USOC Team Selection Working Group approved these procedures on September 27…
I am quite certain that all owners/riders/coaches/etc want the best for their horses
…Westward travel from California to Hong Kong requires that the horses travel by plane between 18-20 hours…
…non-stop 11-12 hour flight from Europe to Hong Kong…
…All of the USEF team veterinarians and shipping agents agree that minimizing the amount of time in planes is the most important element in planning the transport of horses…
