Day 354 mare is showing no signs of being READY

I agree. She looks questionable to me.

Oh she is definitely pregnant. I saw the baby tap dancing on her flank while I was grooming her yesterday, which is really the only time this mare is acting uncomfortable at all. She isn’t happy that she gets to spend her days in the drylot but is enjoying her evenings out in the yard and the alfalfa that she is getting supplemented. This mare also never goes off her feed. two years ago she ate breakfast at 6:30 am and foaled at 7am.

She is bred to a 16 h Belgian WB. She is only 15.1 h. She isn’t hanging low at all. Or showing any signs normal for her. People are telling me that because she is carrying high that means that this one is a colt, of course I want a filly. Oh well I will be happy with whatever I get as long as it is healthy. I guess I get to have many more sleepless nights.

Keep us posted!!!

Do you have udder pics?

this mare does not bag up at all until 24 hours prior to foaling at the earliest so there is no udder to speak of at this time. I keep thinking that I see a slight starting of filling in front of her teats but I think it is just wishful thinking. This is this mare’s 4th foal and that has always been the case. Even when she was a maiden. Talk about a basket case then. But I can get pictures of her udder if you think it would help.

385 days gestation for me last year. I feel your pain! Perfectly healthy foal albeit a little small at birth. But catching up fast now… My mare never did bag up at ALL until after the birth. Go figure. (The testing strips never helped as the mare had no milk to test. ). Just had to wait and let nature take its time.

I gave away my test strips because this mare never bags up until right before she foals. By the time she has a bag it is too late to test. I guess I’m just going to have to wait for this one. She has never gone past 355 days before but I think I am in for a much longer wait this year

Today marks 366 days! No foal. She has some slight filling in her udder area. Her tail is still not as lax as it should be and her vulva is normal. I did have a scare yesterday when I came home from the store and saw her standing in her drylot muching hay. from one side she didn’t look preggers at all (she has not dropped down low yet) and I was like where did it go!!! But then I walked around the other side to start looking in the field and saw the huge alien on the other side so the little guy is moving around in there. I can press on her flank while she is eating and it pushes back. This mare is starting to make me crazy. I will try to get pictures when I get home. It was raining this morning.

Hang in there!!

My mare is 357 today. She’s a big 16’1 TB bred to a massive RID stallion and is HUGE, started dripping a week ago, last Saturday her legs were caked in white thick colostrum according to the vet (she’s at the repro vets farm, we don’t have room and I can’t handle the stress lol) and is the last to foal out there, so it’s litteraly the whole staff just watching her. This is my first breeding experience, and it’s nerve wracking!

Ishi It is always nerve racking. I had the vet out for an unrelated issue yesterday and she looked over my girl. She says that everything looks normal for her (she isn’t going to worry bout her lack of bag because she knows that this is what this mare does) and that both momma and foal seem to be fine we are just going to have to wait.

Good news is that this morning though we don’t really have a bag we have clear fluid that I can express from her udder where last week I couldn’t express anything. So I guess we are finally moving in the right direction

I have a maiden mare that’s at 370 days, today. The vet is coming back to check her on Monday. The foal is moving a ton, & her vulva is barely relaxed. She has a little milk on the right, & almost completely empty on the left. Has this happened to anyone else?

The record is 445 so it definitely has happened to other people. Glad you have the vet coming to take a look, hope she goes soon.
