De Niro Vs Don Schufro ??

I love both theses stallions but I am wondering why Don Schufro dosent seem to get the same number of breeding as De Niro? I may be wrong but it just looks like a lot more breedings to De Niro than Don Schufro. Correct me if I wrong Happy to be.

De Niro

Don Schufro

Semen quality has been an issue with Don Schufro here in the US.

It’s an issue lately in Germany too, as I understand it.

I have been a fan of both these stallions for many years, but it is my understanding that De Niro tends to stamp his foals a bit better than Don Schufro. While there are always exceptions to every rule, the De Niro offspring show a certain consistency in type and topline (and often in color and markings, with so many of them chestnuts with blazes and some white on the legs). The Don Schufro offspring are sometimes a bit all over the map - some are large and a bit “rough hewn” looking, others are quite lanky and almost greyhound looking (and sizes can vary, from smallish to very tall).

It has also been said to me that De Niro very frequently puts on a very nice head/expression - not a tiny, super elegant and refined head by any means, but a handsome “warmblood” head with a large, dark, and intelligent-looking eye. Don Schufro offspring, by contrast, can have a somewhat large and almost old fashioned looking head.

That said, I would love to own broodmares by both stallions.

And yes, the DS frozen hasn’t been as reliable as the DN frozen, and, as mentioned above, his fresh semen isn’t great anymore, either. He is 20 years old this year (as is De Niro), but DS only has one testicle (lost the other one quite some years back due to inguinal hernia).

I had heard that semen quality could be an issue wasnt sure how bad it actually was.
Down Younder thanks for the detailes it makes much more sense to me now why I dont see DS foals much in the US.

I feel very lucky to have gotten a mare in Germany in foal to Don Schufro last year - she had a filly this spring. I had to send he mare to the stallion to get it done.

That is very lucky both for the breeding and the Filly!

Don Schufro has a number of wonderful sons. There is a young son standing at Celle that we used last year - Dannebrog - and we got a gorgeous filly that will become a sport and broodmare prospect for us. She is going to be quite tall, at least 16.3 hands. His frozen semen was superb - it only took 1 dose to produce a pregnancy. I still have a dose in the tank.

I noticed this year at the 2-year-old Han V licensing, Dannebrog had nine sons presented which were all from his first foal-crop. They didn’t get licensed, but to have 9 prospects brought forward, the breeders in Germany think the quality is there.

His damline is second to none - damsire is Brentano II and dam’s damsire is the famous Arogno.

Just brought him up as a viable option to Don Schufro.

Two thumbs up to what I have seen of Dannebrog.

Dannebrog thanks Ill take the time to look him up and watch for his Get…
