Dead tail?

Well I had a nice long discussion with her this weekend. Apparently the mare had EPM as a 2yo and was treated with Marquis? Had some sort of injury, was thrown into buggy work which “seemed” to help. She also went into more detail and said while she was still up north at the trainers that she took her to the University of Illinois and they couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. Yet she hasn’t done xrays. She also went on to tell me she hopes the problem goes away so she can sell her. So at this point, count me out. New information keeps arising and all I see are dollar signs. Sad for the mare, but I will do what I can on the weekends when I am there to love on her, groom her, and ensure she stays happy and comfortable. And to advocate for her if needed.

I gave her the number of my chiro, my vet, and an accupuncturist and encouraged her to have more people look at the mare. She is now acting like she isn’t aware when she is peeing at all. Sometimes she is peeing when she just walks :frowning: I will keep an eye on the situation but if I feel she is going downhill and I have to, I will put in an anonymous call to ensure something is done, even if it is euthanasia.

I think since this mare had a mid five figure price tag on her she’s hoping it will just go away, so she can sell her. I don’t see that happening, unless she invests some serious money into diagnosing the true issue.

I think you are very wise to pass up this horse, OP. It sounds unlikely that there will be a good outcome for the nice mare. Too bad the owner is not interested enough to pursue a diagnosis.

I think I would have to make it clear to the owner that they are a horrible person. Sorry, I don’t think I could just let that go.

She claims she is going to call a couple of the people I referred to her out. I plan on being the thorn in her side to get help for this mare. Because if I don’t do it, who else will? There is no one else to advocate for her. If I make her mad, or quit on her, there will be no one there to keep up with the mare. So, I just plan on being an annoying thorn in her side to get her to take some sort of action. Even if it is just euthanasia.

Mid 5 figures??? :eek : Who does the current owner think she is kidding??? Unless, of course, the 5 figures includes cents

I think your call to pass on the mare is spot on. Only reason I might buy the mare in < $1,000 category is knowing that you might end up giving this mare the greatest gift of all in helping her over the bridge…

That poor mare, and that owner sounds like garbage. Obviously more worried about the money than the mare. I’m glad the mare has at least someone that cares keeping an eye on her and pushing for her.

I’m sorry. Some people really do suck. Thanks for being an advocate for this poor horse.
