Del Mar Live Stream

Did you see the Friday ride? Your description sums up my feelings about her Thursday test but IMO Friday was a different story. I think it’s a shame not to live stream, and a shame they took down the video in question. Amateurs who ride their horses kindly and with empathy, no matter their skill or level, have nothing to fear from a live stream. Characterizing this ride as a series of “mistakes” really diminishes what this poor horse had to endure.

I listened to his commentary on the ride. I didn’t think it was too difficult to read between those lines. Just my opinion but he seems to be walking that commentary back a bit. With the exception of that one ride, everything I have read or heard about any other rider or horse has been complementary. People aren’t going out of their way to pick rides apart. Ms. Browning’s ride wasn’t a bad ride on a bad day. It was a display of bad temper and vindictiveness aimed at her horse due to her own shortcomings.

I’m sorry people don’t want to be streamed but I’m pretty confident that the vast majority of the rides aren’t of the type people would be bashing.

I just hope after this debacle that anyone selling an upper level horse will think long and hard about selling to her.

Please define “kindly and with empathy.” Rhetorical question posed to make the point that any gonzo with a keyboard may have a different definition and take to the internet to skewer you. Then others will not watch the video but participate in the ensuing feeding frenzy further skewering you.

Case in point: The Hobbit’s photo critique.

Yeah, I still don’t get it. I agree with @Angela Freda’s post. She says it better than I could. Yikes!

And again, I didn’t see any of the FB posts; I assume there was much worse said there than here (there usually is).

Refusing to live-stream and claiming it’s because the rabble is rabid in their judgement ignores the fact that there were plenty of other rides live-streamed in the very same show. None of them have illicited any of this (well deserved) reaction.

Exactly… Folks surely know what a rail bird is!

Certainly not being obtuse, again the question was about people watching and making judgements, well it is what happens if you get in a show ring…at my local shows, a few, at bigger shows a few more…I am though not naive I know that every man and his dog has a cell phone now, and the chances are that if something goes wrong it is going to end up on the internet.

It is, again, much like the so called bullying aspect of it, if one person says it is an abusive ride, it is their opinion, when 100’s share that opinion it is called bullying. If 20, 200, 2000, 2000000 people watch it does not make any difference to the test you rode.

There is nothing in that post about the ride, it’s about the reaction of others to the ride.

With the exception of that one ride, everything I have read or heard about any other rider or horse has been complementary.

Complimentary. Hey, I passed English composition so I’m qualified to nit pick the spelling and grammatical errors of others, right? Who lets these people near keyboards? (firing for effect there in case the sarcasm is missed by some readers).

People aren’t going out of their way to pick rides apart. Ms. Browning’s ride wasn’t a bad ride on a bad day. It was a display of bad temper and vindictiveness aimed at her horse due to her own shortcomings.

Please share the winning Powerball numbers.

I’m sorry people don’t want to be streamed but I’m pretty confident that the vast majority of the rides aren’t of the type people would be bashing.

Well, we won’t find out now, will we?

I just hope after this debacle that anyone selling an upper level horse will think long and hard about selling to her.

Awesome! You want to ban, for life, another person you saw for 4 minutes on video from buying an upper level horse.

You’re right that to show means you’ll be judged. I’m simply saying there’s a measured difference between five railbirds and the internet of railbirds.

I said nothing about a “ban”. I said think long and hard. And it didn’t take 4 minutes to see her punish that horse for her own shortcomings. I saw her slam that horse in the mouth after the test was over. That wasn’t a “mistake”. The rest, well we’ll just have to disagree.

Perfect example. She isn’t being called out for a simple mistake. As to the spelling error above I will pay more attention in the future. As a fellow spelling enthusiast I should not have made that error. I shall endeavor to do better in the future.

Apparently, the sarcasm was missed. Like I said, I was firing for effect to provide a couple of examples of how things quickly escalate. The same applies to the comment about the “ban.”

Sorry that you caught the brunt of it since you are relatively new to the discussion.

That said, unless you are psychic (hence the reference to the Powerball numbers), you don’t know the motivation, if any, that she had for riding as she did.

I don’t understand what would motivate anyone to ride like that.

Del Mar isn’t going to live stream the show this week. I’m honestly surprised the mods haven’t closed this thread yet.

Just posted by Adequan West Coast Dressage Festival:

Our live stream has quickly become a beacon for our series and for the equestrian community. We chose to stream our large production to Facebook Live in order to give everyone the opportunity to be a part of West Coast Dressage in a way that was also free. We have spent that last two shows trying different techniques to fine tune our live stream in conjunction with scheduling and guidelines of a show this size. AWCDF 1 saw only one day streamed and then we bumped ACWDF 2 to stream all three days.

We have chosen to not stream this week in order to make improvements to the stream for our final show.

We are so happy to see how passionate everyone is about the live stream and how much they love it. We cannot wait to have it back better than ever starting on Thursday, February 15th, 2018 and Friday, February 16th, 2018 with Axel Steiner commentating. We will be streaming the international ring with both national and international levels all through those two days.

Never fear though, we will not leave you completely out of the action this week! We will have our live stream of the FEI jog tomorrow, January 31, 2018 at 4 pm PST and live interviews and videos for you to tune in!

Thank you for the all the support of the equine and human competitors and of course of the festival!

That is good news

Very disappointed in covering up the ride instead of making real lasting changes. Very disappointed in Axel’s comments, as well.
The horse lost here. Not us, the horse. Shame on them, really.

I feel like live streaming of amateur events is relatively new territory. In the past only top events got TV coverage. Then maybe live streaming the kind of events that would rank TV coverage. But of course you could live stream anything. You could live stream a pony club schooling show if there were some tech savvy dads and a whole lot of waiver releases signed.

Probably a lot of ammies gave no thought at all to the implications of being live streamed and then permanently on the internet until this erupted. What it means is they become part of the public record in a more complete way than even if they just posted their own video on their own FB page.

Anyhow I really don’t blame the venue for going into damage control mode for now and shutting off the live stream.

I am however very curious if SB is riding again and if so, how that goes.

I agree one hundred percent. I mean, really? One handed whipping your horse in a national competition? Jerking your horse in the mouth in anger, and spuring him in the side excessively on national TV? Speaking, calling, roaring out against that type of poor sportsmanship is called Bullying??

Bullying is not the same as outrage against abusing a horse in a national competition. Where is the outrage from the judges, event sponsors and commentators? You can’t compete on a national stage and cry foul when your abuse is seen, discussed and condemmed. You don’t get to do that in front of thousands, or more, of your peers and other riders and get a pass. Its not okay. Its not “de riguer” and it should never be tolerated in our sport.

And as for the venue, the rule makers, the judges and those at the top of our sport making example, you don’t hide abusers for the sake of our sport, and call horsemen who object bullies. This may well have ruined the sport for some people, but not for the reason Mr. Steiner thinks. We don’t blame the people who stand up for the victims against this kind of bad sportsmanship and horse abuse and expect the sport to retain any kind of integrety.
