Thank you
I also prefer to attach the down in the ring and not up at the barn. I would attach mine to the girth in the barn. Loop them crosswise over the neck in front of the saddle. The end of the right one would hang down the left side and vice versa. If they are long enough then wrap them under the neck, back over the top and clip the ends to each other on the top of the neck. If they are not long enough to clip the ends on top of the neck then I either clip them under the neck or tie them in a loose knot under the neck. Earlier in introducing the Vienna Reins to the horse they tend to be longer so more likely to clip on top of the neck. As the horse gets stronger and can carry themselves better they become shorter.
Neither my trainer or I use them a lot so I have not used them in a few years but when I first restarted my OTTB they were very useful. For him I preferred them to side reins. I actually don’t lunge a lot since I think it is hard on their joints. I think all horses should know how to lunge but I prefer to not do a lot of it. For Carson he was very head flingy. I preferred to let the Vienna Reins provide the reminder and consistency before I would hop on. If I used the Vienna Reins for a couple of minutes before I rode it made the ride much less of a fight at the beginning and was more pleasant for everyone.
I cross them over the neck then buckle the ends on the lowest surcingle ring. They stay there walking out to field i work in & while horse warms up. I put them back that way for cool down. Done this for years.
Thanks. If this with the center piece attached? Is your a single center piece or dual? The difficulty is that mine is a single.
I was taught to take both ends together around the neck and then knot the ends back onto the lower part of the rein. Hope this makes sense.
Yep, single center strap I have attached to girth or girth ring between front legs. I leave that one attached all the time.
I would appreciate if someone could send a photo. I am not understanding the descriptions.

This is a write up I did a long time ago on Vienna reins - about the 5th photo down is how I buckle them out of the way for warm up/cool down.
Perfect. Thank you. This should have been Google result number 1!
You’re welcome!
You could have someone add snaps to them. There are some sold that are adjustable but also have snaps, which are handy because then you can snap them together over the withers. If that isn’t an option, maybe just wrap them around the girth/surcingle once or twice? Or how about a double sided snap that holds each end above the wither that you take off and put in a pocket during lunging?
ive added snaps to mine, making it easy to hook up out of the way if need be.
Thanks for all the suggestions
