DeNiro
During the breeders orientation class, I talked to Dr. Christman about DeNiro. Dr. Christman thought that DeNiro would turn out to be even more important than Weltmeyer. That is saying something, considering Weltmeyer’s success.
I wouldn’t be surprised. As noted above, De Niro produces very high level, international quality offspring, as well as really nice amateur horses. I am not sure Weltmeyer had a lot of top international offspring.

Just off of the top of my head . . . Weltall (world record holder ridden by Martin Schaudt), Warum Nicht (Isabell Werth), Vincent (ridden by Bernadette Pujals for Mexico, top ten at WEG), Wizard (Olympic contender for the US, ridden by Adrien Lyle), Wie Weltmeyer (top international horse ridden by Emma hindle for GP)
Not to mention all of the horses with Weltmeyer as the grandsire or damsire (Weltino, Wakana, Florencio)

And yes, I have also heard that De Niro offspring can be a “man’s horse”, not to say that they have bad temperaments, but I was told that they can be larger/heavier and sometimes stronger in the contact. The proof is in the pudding though and he has such an enormous amount of international GP offspring. I am thinking of him for my Belissimo M filly next year.

I am an adult amateur rider with a De Niro / Classiker mare (photo of her on my profile page). She is the most amazing horse. VERY sensitive, but never stupid. I would say she was the exact opposite of a mans horse.

LOL ask enough folks and you really will get every answer

Yes, Weltmeyer certainly had some good international horses. But with all the thousands of mares he was put to over the years, one would expect him to have MORE international horses.

From what I have been told by some German sources with a good handle on all this, De Niro has a higher percentage of international horses - and he is 9 years younger than Weltmeyer.

To enter the DeNiro discussion – the frozen is very good to excellent – 4 inseminations, 4 pregnancies, this is over a 5 year period so the viability of the frozen seems to have consistency. Now, as a sire, DeNiro has been one of my all time favorites for quite a while. His progeny are wonderful – the stallion himself has beauty, character and talent – and that is what he passes on to his offspring.

A bit of input about his frozen semen: a friend of mine just told me that she has a mare in foal to De Niro using frozen semen she got this year. And this pregnancy was achieved by using only one dose!

I have bred 4 De Niros using only 1 straw each time. A full dose is 4 straws

Years ago here in Australia, all frozen semen was sold unrestricted as to use so it was permissible to get as many service certificates as you wanted

it is not sold like this anymore, but i used my last straw this last season for another pregnancy

i have another friend that had 7 pregnancies from 7 individual straws

i wouldnt worry about the quality of De niros semen - it is excellent in the extreme
